Q: When I start my car, the starter sounds like it is scraping. What is wrong?
A: The gear teeth from the starter have to mesh with the gear teeth of the ring gear on the back of the engine. And sometimes, through wear and/or bending the teeth, they do not mesh smoothly. We call this clashing. If you remove the starter you will be able to inspect both sets and see. Ed
