Heating / Cooling System Malfunction Happens always Always
Q: Air conditioning used to blow high volumes of cold air. Now its cool but at a 'normal' rate of flow.
In other words, it seems the damper which closes
when you switch to max, isn't doing its job.
Where should I look ?
A: I would probably want to first check the pressures in the system....
If the blower motor comes on high in the defrost mode..... sounds like the electrical is okay..... Ed
Heating / Cooling System Dimming Happens always Always
Q: The display for the AC/Heat is too dim to read. Cannot see the fan speed or temp, etc.
A: Remove the facing of the control unit and inspect the bulbs. If the bulbs are fine, the facing has likely clouded with age and needs to be replaced.
Q: While driving the car, after about 5 miles, the engine just cuts off. Minutes later, it restarts with no problem. Nothing shows up when put on diagnostics and idles fine.
A: Sounds like the ignition control module......let the car sit and idle with the hood down and get good and warm..may take a few hours and then when it quits you can diagnose for what is not working.....Ed
Electrical / Lighting Systems Chugging Happens always Always
Q: Both Driver and passenger electric windows raise and lower in short incriments approx 2 inchs at a time have to wait 40 seconds or more to continue movement
A: Check The Power Window Circuit breaker (usually plugged into the fusebox).
Electrical / Lighting Systems Malfunction When driving When warm
Q: I thought my rear left turn signal light burned out. I replaced the bulb, and now it doesn't blink. In fact, the new bulb (the "outside" blinker) doesn't light up at all.
Mark
A: THE NEW BULB MIGHT HAVE A DEFECT IN IT TRY REPLACING IT ONE MORE TIME THEN IF IT WILL NOT BLINK CHECK YOUR FLASHER FUSE
Q: my 1987 buick century has a very high idle, what should i look for to corrst this problem?? a pressure problem or is the timing off and how would i adjust it?
A: A high idle would probably be a sticking or bad idle air bypass solinoid, replace or clean and clean throttle body with carb cleaner and a brush.
Q: Is the Oil Pump Shaft that is connected to the distributor, one piece to the gears of the pump? Can this shaft be changed separately? Or does the whole pump need changed? And if so, how hard is it to do? The shaft is not being turned by the distributor, and the oil light is on?
I checked the shaft, after pulling the distributor, and the shaft turns freely. Also, the distributor is worn. This is my kids car.
Any help would be great. Thanks. Jeff
A: The shafts tend to break sometimes.... They are supposed to be one piece... remove through the top and check it over carefully..... Ed
