Q: i would like to know what kind of rear end is in this car and what kind of catalog can i get to find all the oem parts on this car
A: Usually that car came with a 7.5 inch Differential with 2.94 gears if you want to double check the easiest way is to call a chevrolet dealership and give them the VIN and ask them. A chiltons or a haynes manual for your car should give you a good grasp on all the parts and Auto Zone, NAPA and the other big names will have OEM parts unless you ask them for otherwise.
Q: i recently purchased this car and it was running beautifully for 4 days then out of the blue it started losing power drastically. within 15 min i was barely able to do 25 mph. then the next day when i started the engine there was a lot of back fire. i've tried dry gas ,changing the sparkplugs, and changing the gas filter. please tell me what could possibly be the problem.
A: Could be timing chain as was suggested, but before doing that, check out the distributor hold down clamp, these old cars had a tendency to move the distributor & change the timing. Had a '65 do that once to me. Also, check out distributor cap & rotor. Could be a cracked cap, or bad rotor. DB
