Q: The car seems to be missing throughout the acceleration range. I just had a new exhaust system installed. Also I recently installed a new distributor cap and rotor as well as new spark plugs and wires. The fuel filter has 500 miles on it. The plug wires are aftermarket, as is the distributor cap and rotor. The spark plugs are AC Delco and gapped at 35. I've tried the high test gas route with no improvement. The car has a lot of power for a stock engine but shakes when kicked down. This shake is more noticable when in over-drive. I have the 4+3 manual transmission. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
A: For starters, you may want to regap the plugs to .045......
Also check your firing order or rotation.......
If the miss is noticable sitting at idle, you can pull one wire off at a time to locate the bad cylinder...... This narrows things down for you....... Ed

Q: I have a 1958 Corvette 283 engine in my 40 year old boat which I am restoring. This boat will be show material when I am done. Right now it has a fuel pump for a 1972 Monte Carlo on it and the fuel inlet and outlets are in the wrong places. I need a pump which has the inlet on the left, (pointing to the fly-wheel of the motor) and the outlet on the right, (pointing to the timing chain cover of the motor). Nobody seems to have a catalog with pictures and I am scared to special order a 1958 fuel pump for fear that it might be wrong too. Last but not least, this pump is visible and I would prefer something chrome, or polished aluminum or powder coated. Thank you very much for your help, I hope you have more recources than my local auto parts stores.
