Q:  Looking for some help on a mating plug used on a new aftermarket cruise control, with a 1986 El Camino. The new controller has a circuit board type connection, where as the old one just had a four pin male plug. Do you know where I might fine a interface plug or does it have to be a guessing game!


A:  It does have to be a guessing game, but GM may have already done this for you.... Ed

Q:  The timing does not advance on acceleration.


A:  Check whether the vaccuum line to the advance unit hooked up above or below the carb butterflies.....

Q:  It knocks and pings when the 4-barrel carburetor kicks in. And diesels when you turn it off. I've adjusted the timing several times.


A:  Try 'decarboning' the engine completely before upgrading the fuel quality..... Ed

Engine Making Noise Happens always Always

Q:  I have a serious knocking comming from the engine... It is a 3.8 L v6 3 speed manual.... woundering if it is worth it to buy a rebuild kit or just do what my friends say and drop a 350 into it... any comments would help me make this decision..


A:  drop a 350 in it...the crank shaft is toast!
