Q: Van was driving at 55-60mph for aproximately 25 miles in second gear!
Got very hot and quit moving the Van (at least in the forward direction).
Reverse is ok, no noticable noise other than a low whirl.

Q: The transmision doesn't shift into passing gear. There is also fluid leaking out of the bell housing. What is my next step?
A: Adjust the kick down cable for the passing gear. And then decide if the cost of replacing the fluid and fixing the leak is worth the repair dollars. Ed
Q: Hi, I have a 1983 G10 van with some top end noise. Is there any way to tell what components are producing the tapping noise?
This vehicle was well maintained but has 178k on it. No heavy smoking during cold start-up so I am not suspecting valve seats or seals.
This tapping noise is on the passenger side only.
It has a 305 engine and 700R4 transmission.
Any tips??
A: Valves are adjustable. ighten them down about a 1/4 turn. Ed
Q: Just stopped when I pulled into parking lot. Put in gas. Engine turns over good, stumbles a lot, but won't start. Even tried gas in carburetor. Tried day later - same result. High mileage - suspect timing chain. Module low probabilityj. Any way to tell for sure without tearing in?
A: Have you checked your spark? An old cap or rotor could make it stumble if it is cracked or corroded. Take the cap off the Distributor and check to see that all the terminals are in good condition. Also check all your spark plugs. If not, I would look into rebuilding the carb, or possibly a new one.
