Engine Malfunction Not applicable Not applicable

Q:  I need to rebuild a 1985 iroc Camaro w/a 305 cid TPI engine.

Upon tearing out the components in the engine compartment, I see the belt is gone from the smog pump and the pump is seized. It won't turn.

Will it hurt the tuned port injection performance if I leave the smog pump off and just seal up the lines?

If it does hurt performance, I won't do it, though I'd like to use headers, if it doesn't harm the computer or any thing.

Can you help me out?? Thanks Chris

A:  Smog pump is for reducing emisions.....if this is not a concern in your area, then it is not necessary... Headers are often more trouble than they are worth... Low restriction exhaust is a plus for power.... Think about what you would like to have as a finished product, and what it will be capable of doing for you. Then the necessary changes will be obvious to you... Ed
