Q: My car is smoking? It's blue smoke and I know that it is burning oil.....not bad, but some.
I was told it needs valve cover gaskets @149.90 each and an oil pan gasket at 179.90.
Can you help me? Do you think that's a reasonable price?
A: If it's burning blue smoke from out the tailpipe, then those gaskets will not help the problem......
If the blue smoke is from under the hood, then you are at risk of fire from the oil igniting and burning on the exhaust manifolds....
The oil pan sounds close, but the valve cover gaskets sound way expensive......... Ed
Q: The engine stalls for no reson. Usually when
at idle, stop lights etc. but also when slowing down.
Will do this for a few days in a row then quits for awhile but it always re-occurs. Had a machanic look at it and he analyzed engine with computer and found no error code(s).
He replaced an air sensor but it had no effect. Any ideas?
A: Try to clean throttle body & throttle plate of carbon build up.

Q: Dome light stays on after door is shut. Dome light bulb removed and now no turning signals, tail lights, or brake lights. Back up lights, back window brake light, and front head lights will work. Light switch in right door changed out and did not fix problem with dome light staying on. Dome light continues to stay on even door switch is not plugged in door. Slam door shut and hopefully dome light will go out. While driving, dome light will come on and stay on.
A: Wont shift after changeing Transmission,ECM,censors and other parts
Q: This car sometimes won't shift into gear while driving (Automatic transmission). Car also burns oil and leaks real bad. Should engine and transmission be replaced? I believe this car is unsafe and will catch fire. The horn went off two weeks ago for no reason and now doesn't work. It has been parked in the same spot for a month now. What happened?
A: Tabitha, if this is a very high mileage car, 200,000 miles or more and yet the body and interior is in very good shape, sure. Replace the engine and trans as a unit from a reputable auto wrecker. If rust and body damage exists, I would question spending much money on it. Ed

Q: What is the procedure for replacing the ignition lock?
A: Disable the battery. Remove screws from the trim around the steering column(usually on the bottom trim peice). Remove steering wheel if it restricts access to the switch. Unhook all electrical connections from the switch. Unbolt switch from column(some switches have rivets which need to be drilled out and replaced).Installation is reverse of removal.

Q: Hi I'm Erin, The car will not turn over. I put a new battery in and it still would not turn over. The lights do work.
Someone said it might be the brain, but I'm told that it would not stop it from turning over.
Then I heard that there are three wires somewhere.... maybe on the firewall, and they are inline fuses.... One is an ignition wire.
Had it in a shop and they had it running at one time, so they said it was ready. When I went to get it, it wouldn't turn over again. They said they don't know what's wrong.
Can you give me some idea what might be wrong? Thank you. Erin
A: Hi Erin....... I would check the ignition switch.
Maybe try starting it in neutral......
Also the three wires are called fusable links..... they are wires that usually have a tag or writing on them......
Find out if power is getting to the solenoid of the starter with the key held in the start position.....
If so..... replace the starter...... Ed
Q: When in drive, the whole engine tilts back and the air cleaner hits the firewall. I can not find a broken motormount.
I need to fix what I believe is the the mount because it's smashed two heater control valves.
In reverse the motor seems ok.
Do you know where the mounts are? Sound like I'm missing one? What else could it be?
A: Check the lower trans mount and also the rear close to the firewall mount. Ed
Q: Car stalled, finally able to start it, runs then stalls again' doesn't matter if engine is hot or cold, garage changed alternator three times and computer once. now garage is changing alternator again, they say car runs smooth with alternator disconnected, runs rough and stalls when alternator is hooked back up, there is always lots of battery to turn the engine over, IS THE ALTERNATOR SENDING SOMETHING TO THE COMPUTER TO STALL THE ENGINE? COULD IT BE ONE OF THE SENSORS? ITS MY UNCLES CAR AND TWO MONTHS LATER HE IS GOING NUTS.
A: Battery is 12 volts and the alternator is 14.2 volts. If the alternator is causing it, it is a voltage problem. Sounds like someone that does not know is guessing at it. Ed

Q: The motor that closes the headlight covers on my Chrysler Lebaron Coupe no longer functions properly.
It sounds as if it is trying to work, but the covers will not close.
Is there any way to repair the motor without having it replaced?
If not, where can I buy a replacement motor?
A: First you have to determine the problem before you can select the parts to replace it. Ed
Q: While in idle and air conditioning on, the car vibrates, but when the air conditioning is off the car does not vibrate in idle, please help.
(1987 chrysler Lebaron 2.5L.)
A: It is normal for most cars to have mild to moderate vibration whie the Air Conditioner is on. This is due to the high amount of current it is drawing from your altenator. Also some vibration may come from the cmpressor itself.

Q: I have a draw on the battery at all times, killing the battery. Eith a fully vhrged battery the car starts fine . I fyou leave it for about an hour it won't turn over. It won't click nothing. Take the battery cale off and replace it right away and it starts again. You have ti disconnect the battery cable every time you want to start the car. Any ideas of what to look for?
Thanks Ken
A: A power cable is grounding somewhere. possibly the starter solenoid is defective.
Q: I drove the car into the driveway, turned it off, and next day it would not start. Battery seems fine, does not even turn or make a sound. It is like it was out of gear and trying to start it. Lights do not dim when I turn the key. Someone said to tap the starter? Or that there is a fuse from the battery to the starter? dave
A: Try cleaning Positive & Negative cable connections and then off to the starter you go...have a friend take a hammer and tapon the starter body (no solenoid body) as you turn the ignition key as if to start it...hold it there for a few secs and let friend take out some frustrations on the starter...(should start unless another connection is bad/dirty and/or you have a notorious "Chrysler Fuseable Link" broken in two...and they are tought o find!
Good Luck,
Dwayne
