Electrical / Lighting Systems Other When driving When warm
Q: Car is not charging. Brake light is on & light on volt meter is on. There are some relays that are clicking when I pull on wires, and then the car starts charging. I turn the car off & turn it on and its not charging again ?
A: Check your fuseable links (look like jumper wires) under the hood on the passenger side near the battery.
There are 2 sets (4 links total) that originally were under protective plastic covers.
One comes from your alternator. The covers tend to break/ go away with age, and rain water from the hood vent right above them creates corrosion on the spade connector that will cause your problem.
The bad connection will eventually make the link burn out too.
It should be replaced with fuseable link wire, not regular wire. It is supposed to burn out when there is a problem.
Q: I have two hood vents but I don't understand why the left side is capped off? and what would happen if i uncapped it?
A: The left side is capped off to keep water off of the exhaust / intake / distributor area. The vents are mostly for cosmetics and the right side vent serves well enough on it's own for ventilation. Otherwise, there is no true need for them.
