Drive Train / Driveline Malfunction When starting Always
Q: Transmission, when put in gear, is slow to engage.
When it moves, it is like parking brakes are on, and it jumps ahead.
If you let off the accearator it seems like it wants to go backwards.
If moving slowly also auto door locks will not work when this happens... got a clue????
A: You may simply need a transmission service or if you had one done recently they may not have filled the transmission fluid level correctly.
I had a Chevy Lumina in my shop the other day doing the same thing and the service fixed the problem.
Q: It used to start after several attempts. It seems to "prime" okay.
Battery checks good at parts store. I thought corroded wire could be it.
where is starter located? engine code is (12) for "battery recently disconnected"?
A: If it just clicks a number of times, probably the contacts in the starter solenoid...
If no click or engine cranking, open in starter.... Ed

Q: how do you remove the key switch from the steering column? Original switch is damaged and no key will work.
A:
To remove the ignition lock:
CAUTION
You must remove the steering wheel when replacing the ignition lock. On vehicles with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, you must temporarily disable the SIR system and remove the inflator module when removing the steering wheel. Leaving the SIR system on could result in deployment of the air bag and possible personal injury.
Disconnect the negative battery cable, and remove the steering wheel.
Remove the bumper and the carrier snapring retainer from the steering shaft.
Use a lock plate compressor screw tool to install the lock plate compressor screw in the upper steering shaft. To keep the shaft from telescoping, tighten it to 40 inch lbs.
Using the lock plate compressor tool, install on the upper steering shaft, tighten it to depress the shaft lock. Remove the shaft lock retainer, the compressor tool and the steering shaft lock.
Remove the turn signal canceling cam assembly. Put the turn signal switch in the "N" position and remove the upper bearing spring.
Position the turn signal switch so the mounting screws can be removed through the holes in the switch and remove the turn signal lever.
Remove the turn signal switch-to-steering column screws and lift the turn signal switch. Remove the wire protector and disconnect the turn signal switch connector.
Use a terminal remover tool to disconnect the buzzer switch wires from the turn signal switch connector. Remove the buzzer switch assembly with needle-nose pliers.
Place the lock cylinder in the ACC position, then remove the lock retaining screw and the lock cylinder set.
To install the new cylinder lock, reverse the removal procedures.
Tighten the lock retaining screw to 22 inch lbs., the turn signal switch screws to 59 inch lbs. and turn the turn signal lever screw to 53 inch lbs.
As part of the final replacement procedures, check the operation of the switches and the steering column.

Q: transmission shifts sometimes & sometimes dont ,2-times would only creep along in drive 3 mph engine running good, you could rev up motor car not go any faster like trans sliping.I changed oil& filter, replaced elect.transmission relay under hood in relay box it is shifting ok now,but has slow down shift at stops sometimes dont down shift till after you stop. Sometimes rough shift to 2nd& 3rd & the rest of the time shifts out like new one.dose this mean its about shot, its a factory reman.with about 70xxx easy miles on it
A: Sounds as though you have internal problems, shift problems could be a valve body but not if its slipping,a reman with 70k is about at its limit in my opinion.
Q: How do i loosen the belt tensioner to put on a new serpentine belt, where do i do this?
A: IF YOU LOOK AT THE TENSIONER YOU WILL NOTICE EITHER A 3/8 HOLE OR A 1/2 HOLE PLACES LIKE AUTOZONE OR ADVANCE LOAN OUT THE TOOL REQUIRED TO ADJUST THIS TENSIONER OR IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO GET A RATCHET IN THERE YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF

Q: What can make a car overheat?
A: Start with basics; coolant full? All belts in place? Have you tried replacing the thermostat or water pump? is the radiator blocked with debris? Are any hoses collapsed? Have you checked to see if a head gasket is blown? There's more, but try that stuff first.
