Electrical / Lighting Systems Other Happens always Always
Q: My abs light is on and won't go off is this part easy to fix and how do i do it myself.
The srs light is also on, but my air bags are fine and the seat belts are fine too. ???
A: When the lights are on, it just means that the systems are now disarmed because of potential problems......
You need to diagnose the causes and proceed from there.... be very careful with the srs system...... Ed
Q: When driving or parked, my car just dies. Sometimes it starts back up, or other times you have to let it set 30 mins or so and then starts right up.
We have used the self diagnostic codes and it comes up ok, but when it dies you can't use them to check.
I've only owned this car a week but returning it is not possible.

Q: The check engine light on my non-turbo 95 Talon goes on when I start the engine and doesn't go off. The oil is clean, no valve noise, it runs and sounds great, but I think it could possibly be short or something, as well it just passed an emissions test.
A: Check engine light is set by the computer when "it see's" something in one of the systems that it does not like. Ed
Interior Components Vibration When driving Not applicable
Q: When stopped and at low speeds just after it shifts when the idle is at it's lowest for the gear, the dash and steering column vibrate annoyingly. However, I know that the idle is set correctly. What could be causing this?
A: Assuming that the engine and transmission mounts are in good shape, its a possible engine carbonned up problem, causes very rough idle. Ed
Q: When the car is stopped, the rpm's rev up and down from 1rpm to about 3rpm (continuously). I think that it might be the idle control switch but I'm not sure. I've unhooked it but that could mess up the computer for the car.
If you can diagnose the problem I would also like an estimate on how much the part will be.
Thank You.
A: Remove, clean and replace the idle air motor and channel.......... Ed

Q: Power window switch on passenger side is inop. Attempted replacement with new passenger side switch. Still inop. Passenger side switch on driver's side is also inop. (Switch was bypassed for testing purposes and the window motor works.) What's the problem?
A: Sounds like a ground problem with the drivers switch. Ed
Q: Both of my windows come down fine from the controls on the drivers side, but only the left one rolls up from the drivers side.
I have to reach across and push the button from the passengers side to roll up the right window.
Whats causing this?
A: The switch is no good. Replace the switch to fix problem. Anon.
Q: It just won't start, after one day I was driving on the street and started to spread smog from the hood. After that it doesn't want to run anymore... thanks
A: If it did not overheat..the problem may be the camshaft out of time...if it severely overheated..the problem may be a new engine....Ed
Q: Whats happening is, the car sitting at an idle it will idle high then low, high then low constant and I was told the compression in the #1 cylinder was really low, when you rev up the engine the miss or what you want to call it goes away but when driving it returns it has a great loss of power because of it. Could it be compression rings or catalytic converter? Hope you could help. Thanks
A: Catalytic convertor will not affect the compression in #1 cylinder. Find the cause of the low compression and perhaps it will lead you to the cause. Think valves. Ed
Q: I went to the next town over to get some cheapper gas, then drove south about 30 miles. On the way back my eagle talon started chugging, but it didn't die. I checked the oil and it was low, so i put a quart in but that didn't make any diffenece. No lights came on indicated a malfunction. I'm wondering if I need a new exhaust or if I just got some really bad gas (no pun intended).
thanx
A: If the oil was only one quart low, that is probably not the problem.
It sounds consistant with bad gas. Bad gas is hard on an engine.
If the problem clears up, a good tune-up is in order. At the very least clean and gap the spark plugs, better yet... Replace.
Q: Trasnmission kicks into neutral and engine revs up when up you push button to activate overdrive.
A: Ouch.... you have an expensive rebuild coming up....... or find a good used one.... Try the Recyclers here. Click the blue 'Buyers' button and click away.... Ed
Q: how do you remove the front brake rotors?
there are two small threaded holes on the
front, but no screws. I don't know if
their just rusted on, or I'm missing something.
thanks,
Marty Hamilton
A: Hey Marty: I just recently changed the front rotors and pads on my '90 talon. I know exactly what you are talking about. You are supposed to use bolts to thread into those two holes, gradually tightening each until the rotor breaks free. If you are changing the rotors, I recommend beating the crap out of the rotor with a sledge. If you crank the wheel to one side, you can hit the back side of the rotor too. When I tried the bolt thing, I ended up snapping off the bolts before the rotor broke free. If you try this, make sure you use hardened bolts. Good luck, Dave
