Drive Train / Driveline Malfunction When driving When warm
Q: Its hard to explain. but here goes, this Van has a 302 3 on the tree the problem with shifter, whatever gear you are in the shifter seems VERY LOOSE,or a whole lot of travel in the shifter. it shifts OK but when you are in 2nd for instance the shifter visually looks like it could be in neutral, or even 1st.I have checked all the bushings in the linkage which all seem to look fine. I remember driving a 1966 GMC van when you were in 1st or 2nd you could tell just by looking.the shifter was VERY TIGHT and NICE- I dont know if Ford just made a bad design or what or mabey a previous owner was VERY ROUGH with the shifting. any help or suggetions would be really appreciated. THANX, JOHN
A:
Check the shift COLLAR where it slips down over the shift tube--they were bad to split at that intresection-also there is a nylon bushing inside the COLLAR between collar and tube-check that also.
