Drive Train / Driveline Other Not applicable Not applicable

Q:  Is there any sort of "locking" device on the output shaft of a 1983 Ford Econoline 3-speed manual transmission that will inhibit the removal of the driveline.

A:  None at all. You probably have a twisted spline on the output shaft and front yoke. Your best bet is to take the tranny and the front yoke to a local shop and see if they can find you a used shaft.
I have an '86. The three speed is hard to find. If you don't need the floor space between the seats, you can get a 4 speed overdrive for less money as it was the most common tranny in the Econoline series during the '80's.

A:  Measure the deck height and straightness of the engine block surface.... Also check for new head bolts.... the others may have been over heated.... And make sure your cooling system is in good shape........ Ed
