Q: 289 with an automatic. I have no reverse.
It has proper amount of fluid. Any ideas, pointers... Fix it myself if possible but it is a very complicated piece of machinery in there ...
Thanks, Wayne
A: on the side of the transmission you will find a lock nut, screw driver style adjustment; this is a band-aid repair that will get you going; reverse and low range are on this adjustment; do not over adjust as transmission will shift from low to reverse with out warning; reverse clutches may be worn and in need of replacement; check reverse bands;

Q: I'm planning to change out coil springs. Need advice as to the safest type spring compressor to use.
Doing entire replacement of frt. end components at same time.
Can you recommend a product name and where to purchase?
A: Most tool rental places can help you save your fingers (and maybe head) with the springs......
I personally like MOOG for the parts, but any brand name product must be a quality standard part or they wouldn't put their name on it...... Ed

Q: I have a 1964 Ford Fairlane that I want to upgrade to disc brakes, so I went and bought '75 Granada drums & etc, but I'm having trouble finding the right outer tie rod ends & link.
Will Mustang work? And what year would I need?
Thank you very much for your time.
A: Rather than guess with this answer, I prefer to send you to a Ford Car Club..... lots of them on the net...
This is a fairly common upgrade and they will have experienced the parts chase problems already.... Ed
Q: Appears to vapor lock. Fuel pump checks ok, tank has been drained and clean gas added. Gas cap is vented.
When stalled, will start by pouring gas into the carb., but will die as soon as gas is burned.
When it cools down, 1/2 hour or so, will start and run good. Normally starts and runs good.
A: I'm old enough to remember this problem from the past..... vapor locks were common.....
A one way check valve before the fuel pump will help..
Also a small volume low pressure electric helper pump at the tank will help.... Ed
