Q: I am trying to install a stereo in my Geo Metro.
The power turns on and all of the functions work. However, there is no sound coming from the speakers. I don't have the owner's manual or wiring specs for the car and am not sure if my wiring on the stereo is correct.
A: You need the stereo manufacturers wiring instructions. Ed
Q: The service engine light has clicked on after coming back from a long trip, I had a an overhaul tune up done to it before the trip, but when I returned I was told the compression is at 65 instead of 120...
I don't know what to do does this mean it is close to the end for the car
A: I think the person's gauge is wrong. 65 won't even allow the car to start. Ed
Q: While on the highway, on a three hour trip, it seems as if it is going to turn off, though it hasn't yet. We think it might be the fuel filter but we don't know exactly where it is at. The manual doesn't say where it is at.
Q: I just want to know how large the gas tank is in my 1997 Geo metro.
The gauge reads "E" after about 7 gallons, so is it a 7-gallon tank or is the gauge going to "E" prematurely?
A: Cars.com has research tools, put in your car info and when the new window comes up press the specifications link. This may have it.

Q: For preventive maintenance purposes, I want to replace my upper and lower radiator hoses and my thermostat. When should this be done?
I have a 96 Geo Metro, 4 door, 1.3 liter eng.
A: If they are a litle soft to the touch and squishy..... time to change them.... Ed

Q: The past couple of months the car has cut out a few times then it went away, now the car has stopped running at all.
I changed the fuel filter and checked to make sure I had gas to the throttle body and out the return line to the gas tank, when you turn the motor over there is no gas coming out of the fuel injector.
I did make sure the fuel injector had power going to it, which it does. Any suggestions??
Heating / Cooling System Malfunction Happens always Always
Q: The a/c will not come on. I just had it recharged a week ago, was fine.
Then it just stopped today..... and now there is a loud click when you turn the a/c on and off.
A: If the click is the relay..... find out what the relay powers and the problem will be there...
If the click is the compressor... you need to find out why it's not engaging.... Ed

Q: My daytime running lights and headlights have stopped working. The lamps haven't blown because my headlights actually come on when I turn my parking lights on!! Someone I spoke to suggested that a temporary fix would be to remove the "daytime running lights module" and then my headlights would work again but where do I find this module?
My car is a 1995 Geo Metro LSi (2 dooor, hatchback) 1.3 litre
A: Every car is different but usually mounted on the fire wall. Ed
Q: Car has very little power now. I took off the air filter and the center plastic portion was melted down into the throttle body. I have to keep the accelerator to the floor most of the time to keep it at 55 mph on the highway. Several times it has stalled while taking off from a cold start, seemingly flooded.
A:
i have the same problem the check engine light is on and idels very badly. engine codes are 31 and 32 can anyone conferm tps map or egr system?
The geo codes are sometimes different compared with a gm codes list. What engine do you have, 3 or 4 cylinder? Feel free to email
jesse7779@hotmail.com
Loren:
If the plastic part is indeed melted into the t.b. it certainly needs to be replaced. The engine breathes through the throttle body, so for ideal performance the passageway must not be restriced. My email is above if you have questions.
Electrical / Lighting Systems Malfunction When driving When cold
Q: I have had a GEO METRO for three years now. Lately it has developed a problem of blinking "Check Engine" light at starting and driving. This problem is especially noticed when the car is cold. Once the car reaches its running temperature, the light goes out and then stays out.
I have had computer diagnostics run on the car but they cant seem to find anything wrong.....and each time I end up paying money for the comp tests.....please advice
A: Make sure your gas cap is tight. Also might want to check O2 sensor.
Ignition System Other Not applicable Not applicable
Q: Lost all my ignition keys ( only had one) how do I get a replacement key. question is there a number I can use and where
A: go to a chevy/GM/Geo dealership, and give the parts dept, your VIN number. they will get one for you. it will most likely be ordered from the factory.
Q: I'm looking for ways to squeeze a little more than the stock 70 horsepower out of my metro. Granted, I realize that the metro wasnt meant to be a race car but I mean come on, the thing doesn't even have enough power to idle normally when the air condition is on at stop lights. Please inform me of ways to grab a few extra ponies without digging too deep into my wallet as I'm not on the loosest of budgets. Thanx for your time.
A: Check into Turbos, some metro/swifts had this from the factory. Try the Recyclers Finder on All-Parts.com.
Q: One of the spark plugs burned up, and now the engine starts but stutters - put put put, and then dies. The burned up spark plug has not been replaced.
A: Replace it, this car has only three plugs. It will not run without all of them.
All Part Groups Won't Start Happens sometimes Always
Q: My car just broke down yesterday night and I had a new battery put in it to see if that was the problem and it wasn't. Then 2 weeks ago I just got it out of the shop, they had to put a new alternator on it. My car has been squealing the last couple nights, I know its not a belt that made my car not start because I checked them. On my way to work yesterday it was sorta hesitating to pick up speed and making a louder sound then ever before.
Q: my car when he is around 70 miles per hour start smoking from the exaust and i find oil tru the frying pan looks a like part. and now start cutting of when it slow down . what do you think might be?
A:
As a general rule, blue smoke is oil, black is rich fuel mix, white/steam is coolant.
Check for trouble codes. These cars liked to go through map sensors. Very expensive, they don't sell them used.
Q: I drive along and it's like a revving noise when I touch the gas as if I am out of gear. It doesn't do it all the time though. I do notice when I hit bumps in the road (potholes). What about the shifting cable? How long would that take to replace if it ended up being the problem. I am leaking oil too. I have gotten 4 leaks fixed. How many can there possibly be?
A: Sounds like the transmission is slipping. Check transmission fluid(automatic trans.) with motor running, in PARK, on a level surface. If full, you need to replace transmission filter.
It takes about 30 min. to replace the transmission filter
Q: my 1993 geo has Issues with LIFE..............
well the story begins at the fuel pump. plenty of fuel and plenty of spark.
Timing is on both notches. i would like to know why my geo will not start. it attempts to start but has issues. i have no idea why it does this. if you could so kind to help me out i wont have to recycle this car.
I am kinda wondering about oil pump and oil pressure switch diagnostics because the oil light will not go off. i have recently purchased a $700.00 scan tool that won't scan GEO'S. the computer says everything is fine.................................
sincerly,
the geo guy (Dave)
A: Timing still appears to be your problem . By both notches , I take it that there is a notch on the crank and the valve shaft ? Besure that these are supposed to be next to each other , as oppsed to being inline with each other but on opposite sides of their respective pulleyes . The timing marks may be right , but is the distributor properly positioned ? If it is not , then you will have issues . You need to know where the rotor needs to be to point at #1 cylinder . This point should also correspond to both cams in the cam shaft being free from any contact with the valves . This means that both of the valves are closed and the piston should be at top dead center . If these conditions are not met , well , you have issues .
