Loud rattling/ tapping from top end of engine, more so when cold.
Was not noticable when vehicle purchased two weeks ago. 650 miles later it is continuous.
Bottom end of engine recently had rod bearings replaced, or so seller said, documentation with jeep shows some one did do the bearings, do not know how long ago.
Seller claimed mild piston slap, I think maybe I should of walked away when I could have....
I suspect lifters failing, burnt valves resulting and 140,000 to 240,000 miles on engine.
Can I bolt in a later model even fire engine? Will the engine to bellhousing pattern be the same?
My undersanding is that the block is the same, but buick handled the crank and rod placement differently. True?
Are there any special considerations with this swap? I plan on doing a small block chevy with upgraded running gear later this year, but for now, I am looking for a cheap fix to my current situation.
Thanks
A: Cars and cheap fixes don't usually go together in the same sentence.......
Take the valve covers off and check the rockers......
Sounds like one maybe backed off and is rattling.......
Start gathering your swap to parts...... sounds like you will need them.
