Q: A couple of the electric windows were sticking at first then after too much playing with the switches they have all stopped working. The body repair person suggests that the window motors have all fried and is estimating $1600 to repair them. Is there anything that I can try before going this route ??
A: Yup. You played with the switches and now they don't work. Try bypassing the switches to check the motors. Ed

Q: hi
i have a 1994 mazda 929 and problem with the
auto transmission. while driving the car shifts
into gears fine but when i slow down in heavy traffic the car wants to stay in high gear, even when climbing hills. i have to step on the gas rather hard to make the car downshift. i have the dealers repair manual and it gives two areas to look at the torque converter and solenoid shifter A and B. any advice/opinion before i take it to the dealer to have fixed.
thank you
A: The problem sounds like your lock-up clutch which is in the torque converter might not be disengaging.
It could be a bad tcc solenoid, which is in the valve body, in the transmission. It also could be a bad torque converter.
Don't go to the dealer they will just want to put in a new unit. Big bucks!
Go to a tranny shop. call around. look for symbols like Atra or Atsg.

Q: My Mazda 1992 929 seems to be stuck in overdrive. When I press the HOLD button nothing happens even though the light on the dash lights up. The car is very sluggish from the start and it feels like it is starting off in second. Is this a fuse problem because this began all of a sudden with no previous tranny trouble. thanks in advance
A: Sounds like the automatic over-drive switch. This will have to be replaced by a certified transmission mechanic.

Q: The car has 99,000 well kept miles on it. I am noticing a "buzzy" feeling in the floor while cruising at any speed. Feels almost like too agressive tires but I'm just running new Goodrich H Radials on it. Could a wheel bearing be starting to fail? With wheel and brake off I turned the rotor by hand and felt for axial play but all seemed fine. There is also a center driveshaft support bearing in this car (RWD). I have heard this can cause a vibration in failure mode but I would have expected a lower frequency and more violent vibration if this were the case. Maybe not. Hopefully one of you folks might have worked on one of these beasts. Can the center bearing do this? Exhaust system is new from the conv. back. The main down pipe is solid too. Thanks.
A: Centre bearing will cause problems under acceleration, not cruise..... Check the exhaust clearance.
Also if the noise increases with speed or left right direction will help you find the source... Ed
