Q: My probelm started out several months ago in a mild form and has gotten progressively worse. Basically, what happens is that the truck starts just fine and runs well on straight and level stretches but when I accelerate, it begins to skip and then chug until recently it is to the point where it seems to lurch and buck. THIS IS ESPECAILLY TRUE GOING UP A HILL and now I'm to the point it won't go up a hill. I have used dry gas in case it was water in the gas but this doesn't help. My best guess is it may be 1) the fuel filter needs replacement or 2) the fuel pump needs replacement. In all honesty I have to admit that the fuel filter has not been changed in the 60k miles I have owned it and I'm not sure the previous owner ever changed it in his initial 60k of driving. My manual does not show the fuel filter but I'm supposing it is the 3.5" diameter by 5" long cylinder next to the master fuse block with three 1/16" and one 1/4" tubes coming into it. Any help would be appreciated including a price and place to order it. Thanks, J.N. Gordes
A: Fuel filter will have 2 lines.....
Usually black or silver and worth trying before an expensive fuel pump to repair the problem.... Ed
Q: I seem to have an excessively rich burning carb. We bought it with a blown head gasket. Sent the head to the shop, reinstalled all, checked timing. It's on tdc. Float level is normal and oil is clean.
A: Sounds like your air/fuel mixture is off. A decent repair manual like a Chiltons Manual for your specific car should be able to tell you how to fix it yourself.

Q: I'm replacing the rear end of my Mazda P/U. Since I'm
doing all that work, I'd like to replace it with a newer
Mazda truck rear end, with no modification, or only a
small amount of modification required.
My question is, what are the years of Mazda pickups that
have a rear end that will directly replace mine?
Any help is greatly appreciated. THANKS!
Matt
A: Matt...... most of the autowreckers in your area have that
cross over info available to you... a phone call locally
will get you the answer...

Q: While running the engine makes a rattling noise. Almost like it needs oil, but it doesn't. Could it be the H2O pump or something up front making the noise? That seems to be where it is coming from.
A: The timing chain and guides wear out. It's a big job. Ed
