Ignition System Malfunction When driving When warm
Q: I recently replaced the ignition module on my 1991 Mazda B2200 that had 148,000 miles on it. My question is - Do you have to put a dielectric grease under the module when replacing it? The original module did not have the grease. Thanks Joe Mills
A: Yes you do.. it transfers the heat away from the module...... Ed
Q: When the motor is cold, it smokes for 20 minutes and then stops. Also, it dies when I take my foot off the pedal. It uses 1 quart of oil every 3 weeks.
A: The "carburetor/injector unit" on this particular engine is weird. It's a complicated set-up procedure. Also, depending upon the miles on this engine, you may be getting ready for a new one. Ed
Q: There is a problem with lash adjuster, if a lash adjuster fails will this cause you to lose enough oil pressure to cause the overhead cam to scour the cam and bearings?
A: If by "fails" you mean it breaks and uncovers the bleed or feed hole in the camshaft and therefore allowing unrestricted flow of oil through that hole and now not feeding the rest of the camshaft. Then the answer is "yes", it could be the cause of the problem. Ed
Q: There is much carbon fouling of plugs, exhaust gas has so much carbon that the exhaust gas recirculator will plug up an air filter in approx. 2 weeks.
Exhaust has extremly strong gasoline smell. Idle of the truck varies with the outside temp. If its warm out the idle is high, if it is cold the idle is low and will often stall.
Very hard cold starts. the acceleration is poor, at a steady RPM (while driving) the engine is very rough, almost like its running on three cylinders or a clogged fuel filter.
What can I do to remedy this? the fuel filter and pump are in good order.
A: You need to locate the accurate adjusment procedure for that throttle body injection carb unit. Ed
