A: Raise the right rear wheel...... truck in neutral and put a chalk mark on the drive shaft....
Turn the right rear wheel 1 full turn and count the drive shaft revolutions.....

Q: I have a 1991 Mazda B2600 4x4 with an automatic transmission and the tranny is giving me problems.
All at once the "HOLD" idiot light on the dashboard came on for the overdrive and blinks on and off and the engine rpm runs about 1800rpm, as soon as you go to give it gas, it stalls the engine.
Someone told me the tranny is shot, but I didn't know if it could be the torque converter sensor, switch, or silenoid that is creating the malfunction, because once in a while it runs fine for a few minutes, and then it comes back on and won't go anywhere.
I don't have any references to what the "HOLD" code means. Do you?
A: it sounds like it does have something to do with your torque converter, most likely the solenoid isn't "shutting it off"
Drive Train / Driveline Malfunction When driving Always
Q: My son's truck has developed the following symptoms: Approximately a week ago, he added Stop Leak to the automatic transmission of his truck with 143K miles.
Yesterday, it developed problems shifting. It refused to come out of 1st gear, and at one point he states the axle locked.
After leaving it parked till I got home from work, I found that it would go into gear as chosen by the selector, and if you left it in Drive, it would shift up @ 3400rpm, but never made it into overdrive. Toggling the OD button produced no results.
It would down shift @ 2400 rpm, and if you stepped on the gas, it would downshift for passing.
The fluid is pink, A trans service was done 2 months ago, and the Vac Modulator was changed. The shop reported very few filings, saying the trans looked great, except for minor seal leakage.... Help!
A: Dave ,
Unfortunatly, you may need to change the fluid and filter again. The transmission stop leak your son added may have clogged the filter and/or the fluid passages.I'd recommend having the leaking seal replaced as well.

Q: my breaks seize up when after driving for about 10 minutes. When I turn the truck off they release. It takes about 3 pumps on the breaks to seize them up but they slowly release if I don't touch them
A: make sure u have not crossed the brake lines at the master cylinder i had this roblem on a ford truck some one had replaced the master cylinder and used one for a diffrent make and crossed the lines and u could drive ift for about 10 min and the brakes would seize up untill they cooled of then they would do the same thing.shade tree dave
Q: I have to replace my freeze plugs and I would
like to up grade my exhaust manifold to a header style system.
Do you know who makes this part? And will a 2-wheel drive Mazda header work??
A: A header system will help the exhaust gasses leave the engine quickly, but then where?
Unless you are going to upgrade the complete system, you will just stack up the exhaust at the catalytic convertor, and the muffler, etc.
I am not sure about the 2 wheel drive manifold but a tape measure and a careful eye will compare for you..... Ed
Q: I CAN NOT PASS EMISSIOM TEST ,I HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED A NEW CARBORATOR,CAN YOU TELL ME HOW MUCH A NEW ONE WILL COST?
A: About 300.00 and a place called Eastern Imports in Jacksonville Florida got me mine(they might have a website) I replaced the carb on my 87 B2600 and I still havent got all the bugs(vacuum) worked out. BTW: Weber makes a nice replacement carb for this truck but without all the air pollution stuff on it. Don't know if you will pass the test using this carb but it sure makes a difference in the performace of your engine.
Fuel System Won't Start Happens always Not applicable
Q: i did a test on the fuel pump and it's pretty simple it not getting power so i guess my next step would be to check the fuel relay right? if so where is it located and what does it look like
A: THE FUEL RELAY COULD LOOK LIKE A PEICE OF WIRE START YOUR POWER CHECK AT THE FUSE PANEL AND RUN BACK THROUGH THE WIRES UNTIL YOU FIND THE BREAK
