Q: The engine light came on after driving about 3 miles, no noise, or smoke. Have it serviced reguarly. Don't know anything about cars, can you tell me if there is anything I can look for? I have had no trouble up to this point car has 51,000 mi. Donna
A: The computer turns the light on when it "see's" something in the system that is outside of the parameters of operation. Check for stored codes to indicate which system is causing the problem and then you can diagnose it. Ed
Q: The cable on the right side rear-view mirror appears to have become disconnected. The mirror will not hold its position and the inside lever does not move it.
Do I have to replace the entire mirror? or can I reconnect the cable somehow?
A: The mirror and cable system usually are all one unit.....check with the local auto wrecker and they will tell you if they can seperate the pieces...Ed
Q: starts to turn but doesn't.. the rpm's only go up to about 1, then just stops.. kills battery
A: sound os though your battery is dead,turn on your lights when you start the car,if you are dead then replace battery,if they stay lite look for starter problems or neutral switch problems
Q: Recently a almost ringing noise started coming from the engine area. It only happens when the car is idling and in a drive or reverse gear. The car is an auto. trans. Also, a noise that sounds like loud puffing coming from the muffler area. Are these two related?

A: I think so yes...... The ringing may be a heat sheild on the exhaust is loose and rattles.... The puffing could be a slight leak of air INTO the exhaust allowing for fuel mixture re-ignition.... Ed

A: This is a function of the computer when it "see's" something it does not like. You need to extract codes and then check the system indicated by the codes. Ed
Q: The fan for the radiator will not turn on. What part do you think will fix this?
I think I may have found it...
It leads into the coolant and looks like a strip of metal. Is that it? How do I fix it?
A: Not to the best of my knowledge it isn't.....
Most are triggered with a coolant temp sensor...
Usually mounted in the radiator side but sometimes in the upper radiator hose to engine area.... also check fuses first.... Ed

Q: The right passenger side turn signal will not operate, however the driver's side signal does work.
When I activate the hazard lights only the left one blinks in the dash board. When I set the turn signal handle for right turns I just get a very fast clicking.
I have checked the bulbs from the passenger side in the driver side sockets to ensure they are not blown. All bulbs work fine in the driver side sockets. I have checked the fuses. They appear OK(not blown).
I don't know what else to do. Am I dealing with some kind of short? The car has 210,000 miles.
A: Have you checked for power and ground at the sockets? Are the sockets corroded??
