Q: The wipers stopped working, they only work when using the windshield wash setting. Around the same time, the car alarm/horn stopped working. Horn will not work via alarm or manually. Any advice for me?
A: May sound silly but did you check the fuse?.... if the alarm system is aftermarket you may wanna check back with them to see if maybe their system is faulty or causing a short somewhere in your system.
Q: My car is starting to shake somewhat violently when being warmed up. After awhile it dies down. Now it just started a week ago and seems to come and go. Could this be a sign of something that needs to be changed?

A: Sounds like two different problems... are you burning a tremendous amount of fuel???....
Check the temperature sending unit for accuracy...
The a/c problem could be any number of things.... would need more info to diagnose this... Ed
Q: What would be the signs that your vehicle needs a mass air/flow sensor?
A: Tap on the top of it with a screw driver while the car idles.... If it stalls or runs roughly while doing this, check it electronically to prove before buying one... Ed

Q: Hope This is worthy of an Answer.. I just bought this car used. The Keyless Entry system comes with a Factory Code to be entered on the Keypad (on the Door) This coded is in 3 locations.. 1. Owners Card (not present) 2. Computer (was replaced or I am looking in the wrong place) 3. under the trunk ( I am the 3rd owner, the 2nd owner stated that he removed the code under the trunk). Question Can this factory permanent code be reset?
A: Yes, or the code can be sourced through the dealer from Ford.. Reset procedure also. Ed
Q: I have the 1994 cougar with a 4.6L V8 engine and automatic temperature control air.
It time now to replace the radiator and heater hoses on the car. I looked up what I needed in the shop manual. The radiator and the heater hoses seem not to be a problem to change. However, the outlet heater hose connects to a metal pipe. This pipe then runs between the V of the engine under the intake manifold. On the last 5-6" of the pipe there is a hose that then connects to a nipple on the back of the water pump. My questions are this. Can this pipe be replaced without having to remove the intake manifold ( I know I have to at least remove the alternator)?
If the pipe can not be removed, Is there an after market kit that allows one to abandon the pipe and reroute this flow lineover the top left side of the engine instead (Keep in mind I will need some type of adapter to install the coolant temp sensor which the automatic air requires)
A: I would not replace the metal pipe unless it was leaking or very seriously rusted. All coolant hoses must remain below the level of the top of the radiator or you will have air locks. Ed
Heating / Cooling System Malfunction When driving When warm
Q: The air conditioner is blowing out warm air. Last year it worked, not as cold as it should have been but it was fine.
This year it hasn't blown any cold air. I have looked for any leaks but have not found anything that looks as if there were a leak.
Can i recharge the system myself? I did for my cars a long time back, until the refrigerant change over.

A: R-134a is the new refrigerant and normally requires a R-12 TO R-134a conversion kit (which can be quite expensive depending on where you get it.)
As far as doing it yourself, in some states you mut have a liscense in order to buy refrigerant.
I would suggest letting an experienced person do it.
Q: When you are driving, especially at slower speeds, it starts like shuttering. There is a button for overdrive on shifter that doesn't work. Could this be the problem? When you give it some gas it comes out of it. What could be causing this? It will do a second gear scratch, no problem, so that leads me to believe that it isn't a bad transmission.
A: Sounds like you need the trasmission flushed. It is likely that your transmission stays in "locked" mode due to build up and degraded fluid.
Q: Could you please let us know the service bulletin TBS #962517 Dec. 1996, shutter or vibration under light to moderate speeds. If it hasn't been corrected, would they still do it now, five years later?
A: Sounds like torque converter shutter to me,
may try a trans service, or flush.

A: I assume the transmission "rattles". Weak transmissions in these cars.
An estimate from a reputable trans shop/ repairsmen in in order. It is always good to seek those who guarantee their work. But quality workmanship is most important (you don't want repeated downtime, under warranty or not)
FYI- SOMETIMES ultimately caused by a casing problem with the trans. Which leads to repeat failures.

Q: When we purchased the vehicle a short time ago the radio would not even turn on. We discovered a bad fuse and now the radio turns on and we can change channels/band but no sound emits. It is as if there are no speakers which is not the case.
Also there does not seem to be power to the CD player (which is separate from the radio/tape).
HELP! Needs tunes...
A: Check to see if the antenna is hooked up. If someone was installing another component, ie CD player, anything is possible here. Are speaker wires cut? Are speaker wires hooked to inoperative cd player?? Etc, many things to check.
Q: After changing the ignition module, the speedometer reads very high. I soldered a broken wire to the speed sensor when changing the module prior to the speedometer problem. Any suggestions?
A: If you first undo that which got you the problem..... you can check your work..... Ed
Q: I have a stock ignition system with a lot of bad wiring.
Also, the Holley carburetor that I have is very poor.
Are there kits available to fix either of these problems?
A: Check out the local hotrod supplier shop..... distributer upgrade... probably Mallory or Accel.....
And go for the 500 or so double pump carb for power... more than 600 cfm makes lots of noise but not power.... Ed

Q: I have a leak on the transmission. The tranny is an FMX bolted to a 351w. It is coming from around the shifter. I need to take out the shifter to change the seal but to do that I need to drop the valve body. I would like to know what the torque is for the valve body bolts. Thanks
Q: I'm trying to restore the 4 piston front calipers on the 67 Cougar. I'm having trouble getting some of the pistons out of the caliper body. Have tried air preasure at 100 lbs and am currently soaking them (again) in solvent. Have also tried heating the caliper body up a little and had some luck with one piston. Any ideas? I've looked into getting new calipers but can't find them.
