Q: I recently bought my 240, and the previous owner had cut the radio wires.
Can you tell me the color codes for the wires, or tell me where I can go to find them?
I have figured out most of them, but there are a couple which are confusing me.
A: There is a good chance that that car may have a factory amplifier(s). If it was equipped with a Bose stereo, then it does.
The amp may be the extra wires that you are unable to idetify.
If you have or can borrow a multi-meter that will check voltage and resistance you should be able to identify speaker wires and your power for the radio.
When you find you spk. wires you can check them with a small 9volt battery.
Q: I have a 1992 Nissan 240SX in the shop with a broken timing guide. Nissan says the part is discontinued and no longer used. The Mechanic says that it might jump time if we don't put that part back on. But the part is really hard to find. All they were going to do is replace the broken part and not change anything else. Any advice?
A: The guide usually breaks because of slop or free play in the chain ..your local auto supplier can locate a complete timing chain kit for you to replace....Ed
Q: My car won't start. When I turn the key, I can hear a clicking sound but nothing happens after that. The radio and headlights are fine (so should not be batteries). However my car is manual transmission so I have to push the clutch when I start (certainly, I did that but it still won't start). How does the car know that I pushed, or not pushed, the clutch when I try to start the engine?
A: There is a switch on the clutch linkage that must be activated by pushing the pedal. Try cleaning the battery posts and cables first. Ed

Q: Which relay is responsible for retracting my headlights.
They opened fine, but now will not close. The headlights work fine, but they stay open.
The control fuse under dash is not blown, nor is the big fuse near/behind the battery. I found a relay in the group near the battery, as well as 3 more relays in a group near the air filter (front passenger side).
Which one is likely the culprit. Are they available after-market?
Would you go to a used part lot? Thanks.
A: relays are inexpensive so I would use new. Also you need to look up the relay in a parts locater manual. Should be available at local library. Ed

Q: This is an intermittant problem I have had for 5 years. The car cuts out during deceleration between 35-70 mph. It does not always happen but if it is driven long enough it will. Several throttle sensors have been installed which seem to help for several weeks, then the problem reoccurs. All plugs, wires, etc. have been replaced by several mechanics, both independent and Nissan dealers. The problem keeps coming back. I am quite convinced that this problem has nothing to do with anything that a normal tune-up would repair. I have had mechanics say they can't duplicate the problem, while others were able to do so but still unable to find out what the cause of the malfunction is.
A: Have they done a wiggle test?
Has egr been ruled out?
Does engine stall?

Q: When the air conditioner is on, and when braking to a stop, the car's rpm drops to 300 rpm and wants to die.
Could it be that the IAA /ACC valve is sticking and not compensating for the load?
Also, the car sometimes will crank but not start. The coil, power transformer, distributor, plug wires and plugs have been changed.
Could this also be related to a sticking IAA /ACC valve?
A: Good work.... yes, both of these problems can, and quite often are, traced back to this little devil... good luck...Ed

Q: The last time I drove my car it was fine. A couple of days later when I got in to start the car the clutch peddle went to the floor and I can't get it in gear. What does this mean?
