Ignition System Malfunction When starting Not applicable

Q:  The car won't start sometimes. You can depress the clutch a couple of time and it might start. Seems like there is a safety switch behind the clutch that is not working properly. Does not do it all the time.

A:  You are correct about the switch... try an adjustment of the switch first... Ed

Q:  There is premature tire wear, the inside of tires wear down, but outside still look good after 30-40k miles, even after alignment. I was told this is because of vehicle weight ?????

A:  Did someone remove all the factory installed weight????..... Run away from who ever is asking you to believe that, and get the alignment on all 4 wheels checked at a reputable shop..... Ed

Drive Train / Driveline Malfunction When accelerating Always

Q:  TRANNY SLIPS

A:  Band is loose , or the fluid is low . Only check the fluid when the engine is running and is at normal operating temperature . Checking the fluid with the engine off will give a false reading . The proper level is when the engine is running , because the fluid is being circulated and the dip stick shows that the pan has enough fluid in it for proper operation .
If the gear shifting bands are not tight , slippage can occur . Leave this to the experts .

Fuel System Other Happens always Always

Q:  Is there any way to use my multimeter to check the air mass / air flow sensor... if the problem is in the harness or the sensor itself? I hate the idea of simply replacing the sensor if the problem is else where. Thanks Mark

A:  Yes... find the "pin" info readings and check them...with a wiring diagram you can check the harness also... Ed

Ignition System Won't Start When starting Always

Q:  The car won't start. I checked the coil, and changed it because according to my book on the primary side of the coil it wasn't in spec's, and still got no spark ? I know there's a module.. can this be the problem, or something else?? Gerald

A:  I have recently found out that when the coil goes it usually takes the module with it, if you buy the coil direct from a nissan dealer they will only sell you the coil and the module as a set. it will be about $121. this seems to be the spark and starting problems for quite a few nissans lately. There is more info about this problem at www.maxima.org follow "forums", then "1st and 2nd generation maximas" a post by chad was then posted to by himself after solving the problem.

good luck i hope this is the problem.

Chassis / Suspension & Steering Vibration When driving Always

Q:  my 1985 nissan 300zx shakes violently anywhere between 15 and 50mph. If I turn the wheel quickly, it'll stop for a few seconds. I balanced my tires and checked air pressure and it stopped for about a day, now it's back. pls help!! thanks.

A:  I'm no licensed mechanic or anything but it sounds to me that you have a bad tie rod or your allignment is off, i'd get it checked out soon or you will be buying two new tires too.

Electrical / Lighting Systems Other When accelerating Not applicable

Q:  1) A/C blows cold "UNTIL" you accelerate. 2) Then the air blows out warm. 3) Then when the car levels back out from accelerating the air becomes cold again. kidrock@weblnk.net Thanks

A:  Check all vacuum hoses for leaks, breaks, loose fittings, etc. Many vehicles employ a full throttle A/C cut out which disables the air conditioner compressor under full throttle for increased power for passing, etc. A vacuum leak could allow the air conditioner compressor clutch to unlock under less than full throttle conditions. This is a cheap and easy place to start diagnosing this particular problem.
