Electrical / Lighting Systems Dimming Happens sometimes Not applicable
Q: while driving w/ lights on, dash lights will dim a little and come back - also happened when I put car in reverse and when car was in "park" idling - no problem starting car, acceleration, braking, etc - alterator and battery replaced 22 months ago - check engine light goes on and off (it's on now) but Nissan said they couldn't find anything wrong - emmissions ok.
A: GET A WIRING DIAGRAM OF CHARGING CIRCUIT. SEE IF ONE OF THE ALTERNATOR WIRING CONNECTORS, RUN TO THE DASH LIGHT CIRCUIT. IF SO, USE AN VOLT METER AND TEST WIRE RUNNING TO THE DASH CIRCUIT.
Electrical / Lighting Systems Malfunction When braking Always
Q: The brake lights don't work. On occassions they work, but most of the time they don't. I can't take the shift out of park after turning on the ignition. I have to turf off th ecar, set the key to accesories and move the shift to neutral. The fuses and bulbs are ok. Is there any other switch I have to look at?
A: Park lock out switch. Also part of the brake light switch sounds defective. Ed
Electrical / Lighting Systems Chugging When stopped Always
Q: Hello, recently I installed an audio system in my car, since doing so, whenever I am parked somewhere and the car is still running, the rpm gauge will drop all of a sudden and the car will sound like it is going to die, but when i give it gas it will boost back up, but then it will do the same thing all over again. I know nothing about cars. Can you tell me what is wrong and how much it will cost me?
A: The two things are most likely not related. The idle air control system needs to be serviced. Ed
Electrical / Lighting Systems Malfunction When driving When warm
Q: My brake lights will not shut off. They stay on while I'm driving and when I shut the car off!
A: Your brake light switch is stuck,it is located on the brake pedal at the top,you should see that it is activated when you apply the brakes and should have two wire coming from it.
Ignition System Malfunction When driving When warm
Q: My car runs great. No sputtering, no rough idle, no missing, no noises, no power loss.
But all of a sudden it will totally die either when driving or at a stop. I have just recently installed new plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and the secondary fuel filter.
I have no electrical loss whatsoever when the problem occurs. It doesn’t run hot either. I know it isn’t a distributor problem as I have pulled the coil wire off about an inch or so, and it threw about a 1" - 1 ½" arc.
When it dies, the tachometer just totally drops without warning. I can be driving normally, or even at high rpm’s when it happens. Sometimes I have to wait a minute or two (or a few seconds) for it to start back up again.
The "Check Engine" light never comes on.
I was maybe thinking something in the fuel system, rather than some sensor (since the engine light never comes on).
Could it have something to do with the oxygen sensor? The mass air flow sensor? Fuel pump? Fuel relay switch?
I have installed a K&N Air Intake System and a medium size stereo system in it. Might there be a problem somewhere with one of those?
Please email me at: BALD_MAN_ARMY@yahoo.com to give me a few parts to check into before I go buying parts for it.
Thank you very much for your time.
A: The tach dropping to zero is a key for you. This is an ignition problem of sorts. Something is "cutting" off the current to the system. Possible ignition switch perhaps. Ed
Ignition System Won't Start Not applicable Not applicable
Q: Altima didn't give any warning. It just won't start. It's not even TRYING to turn over. It's almost like the battery is dead. When I turn the key it MIGHT make ONE click. and that's it.
The power locks will seem to be barely functioning, ... The battery is fine, and jump starting didn't do anything.
A: David,
First check your positive battery post and terminal for corrosion. If it's dirty ,clean it with a battery post/terminal cleaner available at any auto parts store or Wal-Mart.
Second, check the negative battery teminal for the same thing and clean if neccesary.
This should solve the problem.Good luck!
Jason
Q: On top of the engine, there are four wires that plug in a hole, what do they do and what are they called?
A: Those ones are connected to the spark plugs.
I'm sure you know you need spark plugs for igniting the engine.
You might wanna call the wires spark plug wires.
