Q: I am dropping a 1973 Oldsmobile 350 rocket into my 1978 Firebird.
In my Firebird I have a 4-speed Muncie. As you know, neither Olds or Pontiac made very many standard transmissions behind their 350's. Therefore, the flywheel is very hard to find.
Do you know what flywheels are interchangable?? Where I might find one?
A: I don't know what to use as an interchangable flywheel; haven't done the change myself.
A good transmission shop will have a cross reference for you.... Ed
I have replaced the fuel pump/ fuel filter/ carb/ distributor/ coil/ plugs. (I have a new timing chain but have not put it in)
Once the engine is off idle, the missing seems to stop, it runs smooth on the freeway.
My friend had a similar prob with his '66 el Camino and it turned out to be lifters...
Yes, I know I need to do a compression check... how do I read the results?? help
A: A loose or brittle vacuum hose anywhere on the engine will produce this symptom.
With compression, you are looking for consistency more than the number.....
Whether it's 125 or 160 psi is not as important as the numbers being no more than 15% from lowest to highest..... Ed
