Q: '88 toronado with digital dash - don't know how to reset warnings (audio and visual), after changing oil and recharging air conditioning, as the warnings instructed. Also, odometer (total mileage) recently started blinking "error", for unknown reason. This "as new" car has only 27,000 miles on it - I don't want any discrepancy about that fact.
Thanks,
Gary
A: Try disconnecting the negative battery cable(key off) for at least 1 minute. Ed
Q: My twilight sentinal stops working at the same time my dimmer for my interior light stopped working, and my light on my radio.
It happened with my 88 toronado and now this one. The fuses are all good.
A: The twilight sentinal and the dimmer are all connected to the same switch. Find that switch and replace it. The instrument cluster will probably have to come out unless the switch is on the outside.

Q: On an 86 Olds Tornado, the directionals don't work.
Is there a relay somewhere, the fuse if fine. Help! Scott
A: Press the 4 way flashers on....follow the clicking sound....
Feel the round silver or clear plastic "flashers" to feel
the clicking.... That one is working and the other identical
one in the fuse panel is not and needs replacing....Ed
Q: Car was running fine. Drove to town, parked, went to start it up a short time later.
It started and then died and hasn't started again. At this same time the Oil Temp pegged at hot and stays there anytime the key is turned on.
Checked fuses. Cannot smell any fumes from intake.
Replaced Oil sensor and corrected the oil temp guage problem but still won't start.
I've heard somewhere that sometimes the ECM will shut off the fuel pump if it detects a problem with the oil system or something.
Could that be it? How could I reset it? What else could be causing it?
A: The 86 toronado is a complicated machine. You can go in through the climate control system to pull up all of your trouble codes.
All you have to do to get in the system is push and hold the off and the down temp switch on your climate control system for 5 seconds.
The codes will be flashed across your dashboard. you will have to get a shop manual to know what the codes are, chilton nor haynes make a repair book for this model and year of car.
Also their is a fuel pump hot wire under the hood of the car on the drivers fender well.
Hook up a wire to it and then to the positive side of the battery. you should here the fuel pump come on when you touch the battery with the wire. the fuel pump wire usually has a green factory plug on the end of it.
