Heating / Cooling System Malfunction When driving Always
Q: The defroster stays on and my VIC system will not operate. When I start the car, the defroster comes on (fan blowing hot air) and my touch screen says 'electrical problem, service requested.'
None of my gauges operate, the air conditioner will not operate, I cannot access anything on the VIC.
Otherwise the car runs well, and usually after a while the problem goes away, and the screen goes back to normal, after the defroster shuts down.
A: Sounds to me like the a/c system is low on refrigerant........ check for pressures and proceed from there...... Ed
All Part Groups Malfunction When driving When warm
Q: Hi. We are very frustrated. We have a 1991 trofeo, which we love. It has 140,000 miles on it. We are being told that it probably has a bad cluster in the computer system (are being told about $800 to $900 to fix) and that we will need to send in the computer to get this fixed.
Since we are in love with the car, we would like to know what are options are to find this part and what the history is of this bad electrical problem.
The car has been wonderful for 2-1/2 years except for the darn electrical. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
We know we will need to put some money into it to keep it running well. What do you suggest? Thanks

Q: How do I replace a high beam switch on this car?
A: High beam switch is part of the signal switch assembly I believe, and requires disassembly of the steering wheel and column... needs some specialty tools....
Engine Malfunction Happens sometimes Not applicable
Q: My car drives good for about 30 minutes.
After that it will start to loose power,the engine will putter,and the rpms jump around.
I was wondering whats wrong?

Q: Dashboard doesn't operate. I checked the fuses and they seem to be fine. The only way I can gauge my fuel is to wait until the gas light comes on the VIC and then refill. Also my speedometer doesn't operate. When I turn the car on the lights on the dashboard will blink on and off but as soon as I put the car into gear they cut off completely. Please help?
A: Are you sure you checked the right fuses? Also check for a main switch that controls all of those things and if the instrument cluster has ever been taken off make sure that everything has been pluggged back in.

Q: My digital displays says I have an "Electrical malfunction". The Temperature bar graph disapears, the "'service engine soon" light comes on and I lose cruise control. Sometimes everthing comes back or flickers on or off or electrical malfunction appears and everything appears ok. Most of the time the malfuntion stays on.
A: Sounds like your instrument cluster has a loose connection that would cause the electrical malfunction and service engine soon light to come on
Q: My change oil index is at 0, and I changed my oil and everything, but when I start the car, the system monitor tells me to change oil and chimes and reads "change oil" on the information center (until I push the systems monitor button..)
How do I reset the change oil index? Any help would be appreciated.
A: There should be a screen which allows you to reset. It should be green lit button on your touch screen.
