Fuel System Malfunction When driving Not applicable

Q:  I put an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb w/electric choke on my 1967 383 Fury. Now it bogs and has no power. It's a brand new carb. I can't afford to upgrade to a 750 cfm. Can I get a decent response out of it with a bigger fuel line and electric pump?

A:  The problem is not the carburetor....... 600 is okay for this car.... Check the vacuum advance lines and timing... Ed

Electrical / Lighting Systems Dimming When braking Not applicable

Q:  When I press on the brake the interior lights dim severely for just a moment, and then brighten up again. Do I need a new brake-light switch or does it sound more like an electrical short?

A:  Sounds like resistance in the brake lights system. Probably at the rear of the car. Ed

Electrical / Lighting Systems Malfunction Happens always Not applicable

Q:  The gas gauge on my 1965 Plymouth Fury II is always reading empty. There are four wires to the back of the gas gauge, from driver seat, left to right, blue, black, black, orange (as close as I can tell). How do I determine if the fault is the gas gauge, or the sender in the gas tank? Thank You.

A:  What you need to do is disconnect the wires and clean them. Then hook them back the way you found them. If that doesn't work, get a mechanic to see if the sender is stuck. If so, just unglog it.
