Q: A couple of questions-- I seem to go through brakes like water-- squeaking, vibrating-- any thoughts, also some cosmetic questions
I have a 1993 white Plymouth laser (118,000 miles)-- low end 1.8 no power accessories eccept steering/brakes ;).
1. The interior hatch/trunk cover will not stay up-- it appears that the special screws attaching it to the seats have been stripped-- what exactly is it called, I tried to search for it but get the exterior hatch part not the interior
2. The rubber weather stripping is loose form the driver door-- can that be replaced- couls I do it-- a mechanically challenged female--
3. I had a CD installed and now the back defroster doesn't work or shorts out-- any thoughts, I took it back to the installer says the 2 are unrelated but...
4 I need a new wheel cover, are they easy to find?
I 'd like the car to last at least another year but idf I have to trade it in-- I'd love to have it look its best.
Thanks, Barb in South Jersey ( outside of Philly)
A: Re: Q#2 Yes it can be replaced and a "mechanically challenged" anyone ought to be able to replace it. There shouldn't be any special tools needed for this procedure.
Re: Q#1 I would imagine that being a hard to find description, I am actually looking for one for my 90 eclipse.
Re: Q#3 What CD did you have installed. Was it an in-dash or a changer in the rear?

Q: DOME LIGHT WON'T LIGHT EXCEPT WHEN FUSE IS REMOVED AND REPLACED AND THEM ONLY FOR A FEWW SECONDS AND GOES OUT AGAIN. JIM
A: I bet you also have the same problem with the "key locator" ring on the steering column. Sounds like the timer relay that controls your interior lights is going/gone bad. It is a tough one to locate because it is located in various locations under the dash. By removing the fuse you allow the relay to "reset" but only briefly. Call your local Mitsubishi dealership to get the timer relay (aftermarket does not support) and while there ask for location on your specific car. Good Luck.
Q: When driving down road at any speeds the car shuts down like no fuel or key was turned off. After sitting for about ten min. the car will start and drive fine with no problems. Also this engine has been changed. this engine was not from a laser and dont know what vehicle it was from, i have the number from the block which is
4G37----HE0060 if you could tell what type of engine it is and year
A:
It still should have the same size engine. Unless of course a hard-core toggler got his hands on it. Need to determine if you are loosing spark during no start. Is fuel pump running when key is turned to on position and when engine is cranking? These cars have a known problem with the connector at the fuel pump. We first need to determine if you have spark and any codes trouble codes stored?

Q: Power Steering Fluid keeps leaking. One bottle will last about a day with continous driving.
I'm curious if this is a major repair job and what could I be looking at as far as cost goes?
TIA

A: It could only be a leaking hose which is not to hard to change or the pump itself could be leaking which is a little harder. Worst case is the rack and pinion unit leaking.
Q: I have an oil leak after the car has been running. I had the oil changed as we thought it may be the filter that was leaking. This didn't change the situation.
A local mechanic suggested it may be something called "oil finden (sp?) unit, which is located next to the oil filter and could easily be replaced.
Can you tell me if this is feasible, what is this unit, and where can I find one?
A: "Oil pressure sending unit"....... yes/ yes and click a blue 'Buyers' button on All-Parts to find one..... usually about 15-20 bucks.... Ed
Q: Car has been checked out at local shop. They said that it needed an IAC motor (intake air control?). I can't seem to find any type of matching part in the fuel system parts catalog. Any suggestions?
A: It is there. The catalogue only has the parts that the supplier has for sale. Not ALL of the parts. Ed
Q: It wants to turnover to start but doesn't, it has spark, timing is good, has a new battery, I think its electrical but I dont know. They tell me its the motor but I want a 2nd opinion. Thanks, Linda
Q: How hard it it to Change the Head Gasket on A 2.0 DOHC Motor...
A: Not hard at all . You will need to be careful to label everything as to what it came off of and where it goes back . You will also disrupt your engine timing . To minimize this , make sure to not move the engine in any way . That is , specifically , do not crank it - at all ! Get a new timing belt , if the car uses one . If not , you might want to get a new chain and gears , this depends on how many miles you have on the engine . Go to www.alldatadiy.com for diagrams and any other information that you cannot get at this site . Timing can be very touchy , it will also be a great learning experience for you . The other way , pay someone else to do it for you .
Q: Overdrive does not work. It's a push button on the shifter.
When you're driving and you push the button, it goes out of gear like it's in neutral. Thanks.
A: Hmmmmm .......does it engage all the way??.. Also....is the fluid all discoloured???... sounds like the overdrive clutch or band is toast.....

Q: On my automatic 1990 Plymouth Lazer... when I push the overdrive button in on the shifter, the car goes out of gear like it's in neutral.
What could be wrong?
Janie
A: Janie..... I think the overdrive clutch pack inside the transmission is ruined...
The transmission shifts into overdrive, but the gear(clutch pack) does not hold.....
Almost like staying in neutral...... Ed
Q: Hi. My computer is not acknowledging when I disconnect the oxygen sensor.
I thought that the sensor is broken, but the ECU did not send any code.
Any way I change the sensor, the car still burns fuel like crazy, so I diconnect it to see if ECU will send a code, but it did not.
Is it malfunctioning or is something else? Thank you.
A: The computer must go into closed loop mode before checking the system...
If the oxygen sensor does not heat up to temperature, the computer will not take over responsibility...... Ed

Q: clicking when making turns left or right.
A: Usually it is the brake pads a little loose........ however these cars have a history of CV joint problems, so check these closly also... see if the cv boots are ripped..... Ed

Q: My Laser has flip up headlights. When I turn my headlights on, they will go up. When I try to turn them off, they remain up. You can crank them down manually, then put them up again, but they continue to get stuck. Recently, out of nowhere, they were working properly. This only lasted a short time, then they went back to the old way. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
A: It sound like the motor for the lights are bad or the wires to the motor for the light are cooroded.
Q: ok...i own a 90 plymouth laser... I take it out for a drive and everytime i come to a stop and press in the clutch, the car dies.... almost as if it isn't finding it's idle....
Trying to sell it by the way... can't afford to continue trying to fix it up... expensive repair bills...but lately.... if it's been sitting for awhile...cold.... i let it warm up say for under 5 minutes... (in fact.. it happened when a guy wanting to buy the car test-drove it)...
Then again.. last time i drove it to one place... it stalled at every red light when i pressed in the clutch.. however... when i drove it home... it didn't stall but once... and later that day i drove it back to the first place and it drove like a champ.... don't know what the problem is... last year i had to replace an idle air control solenoid or something like that....
Any ideas? can't sell it if it's acting up....
thanks for any help

A: Oh do I know how you feel , been there with other cars . The number one thing that I recommend that you do is to learn how any car that you own , operates , and why it operates as it does . Number 2 , get more than one opinion on a problem . Number 3 , think about it , reason out the symptoms before anyone touches the car .
Now , you appear to have a vacuum leak . Get a can of carb cleaner , or soapy water , and spray around the vacuum line connection points . All modern engines rely on vacuum . If there is anything that will cause an engine to malfunction , it is vacuum . I would suggest that you also check the EGR system , and look for leaks ( vaccum ) aroung the carburetor , throttle body , or the air inlet for the intake manifold if this car is a per cylinder fuel injected engine . Using the soapy water , look for water that is sucked into the connection point .
