Q: I just replaced the plugs, wires, pcv, air filter, fuel filter, battery, and starter. The old starter was bigger than the new one. When I start the car it starts to run, but the starter is still spinning. It will not shut off until I disconnect the battery. I don't know if the plug wires are in the right order. On the block numbered 1234. On the DIS 4123. The Chilton says 1342. Am I missing something here? I have had the starter retested, works right. Check the wires to see if they were crossed, mounted exactly like they should be. I have done every thing the manuals have asked and still the same. One other thing, the starter bracket will not fit on the new starter. Is it used as a grounding mechanism? If so do I need to install a ground wire from the starter to the frame. This is my wife's car. She has to be at school on Monday. Help!!
A: The correct firing order is 1-3-4-2. The problem with the starter may be the ignition switch not returning to "run." On most GM vehicles the actual ignition switch is located on the backside of the steering column most of the way down under the dash. There is a steel rod that connects the part that you put the key into to the switch. Drop the steering column and turn the key back and forth watching the rod and the switch itself. And by the way Saturn is backed by GM if you were wondering.
