Q: I'm trying to replace my front ac adapter cover. Can't seem to find any info. Don't want to pay dealer to do.
A: Your best bet is alldata.com
You can buy a one year subscription for 24.95
Diagrams, instructions, specs, tsb's...etc
The same service many professionals use.
Other options...
A factory manual, pricey but accurate.
An independent shop, shop around.
Haynes or Chiltons manuals while in-expensive are unlikely to contain the info you need.
Q: Water runs out of the resevoir at the little hole in the bottom of the cap.... about a half gallon in 100 miles. The raditor is fine.... What could be wrong? New thromastast, radiator cap & new thermo for radiator.
A: Be careful not to overfill the resovoir.......
I am assuming that the cap with the hole has been replaced also........ Ed
Q: When I "engage the gear" and drive my 1997 Toyota 4 Runner Limited edition, I hear a strange noise coming from the rear end of the engine (may be from the exhaust area).
It does not make the same noise when the car is in park and I increase the RPM!!
Could you please tell me what might be wrong.
A: Is the exhaust touching or rattling against something? Ed

Q: When changing gears (5 speed) the clutch makes a creaking sound now for a day or so.
Does it require lubrication? 61k miles.
A: It requires the replacement of a plastic bushing located at the top of the clutch arm under the dash.
Lubricating will temporary fix the noise but it is not a permanent repair. Common problem on Toyota.

Q: Rear defog, rear wiper and rear washer all quit at the same time. Checked all fuses. All look OK. Did not find a fuse in interior fusebox or under hood fuse box that was designated for rear washer/wiper/defog. Are there fuses somewhere else?
A: Alldatadiy.com could provide that answer . Also a bad ground could cause this problem .

Q: My 1996 Toyota 4Runner has a check engine light that comes on when it is raining or very humid. Often it will reset itself, sometimes not. Have paid the dealer $$ and he is unable to pinpoint the problem.
Also, what's the best way to reset the light? I don't want to pay Toyota $52 every time the light won't auto reset.
Thanks!
A: check your oxygen sensors.. toyota (specially newer ones) I've seen have problems with them. A faulty O2 sensor will trgger the light. what state do you live @? You might be able to go to autozone, they can check it for free(I work there, but live in FL.. I'm not sure if it's a national program but check at the website)
good luck.
Hi,
The above message if from somone else.
An OBD2 scan tool is needed to reset the light.
Could be a number of things, ignition wires, baro-press sensor, etc etc.. Impossible to diagnose without knowing the code that is turning on the light. Find another technician, one more versed on emissions/drivability complaints.
Q: I would like to install a TRD supercharger on my 3.0L V6 (3VZ-E). The TRD unit is designed for the newer 3.4L V6.
Last weekend I downloaded the TRD installation manual and spent several hours under the hood comparing the 3.0 setup with the photos of the 3.4 in the manual.
My guess is that the 3.4 is a bored out twin cam version of the 3.0L. Fixing bolt locations and the belt setup in my 3.0L coincide with the 3.4. The air intake on my 3.0 is on the other side but can be easily extended and rerouted to suit the supercharger.
The only obsticle I can see from a visual comparison is the location of my distributer (electronic on 3.4L) however, if there isn't enough clearance above the distributer to seat the supercharger I can easily have a flange made to raise the supercharger up.
Am I overlooking something?
Is the older version of the TRD supercharger a better choice for a modified installation?
Can you recommend a Nitrous system for my 4Runner?
A: I would not recommend nitrous in any stock vehicle unless it has had an extreme amount of bottom end work done to it as the the nitrous would not only melt the stock pistons but it would also most likely detonate the crankshaft.
Also the supercharger - unless underdriven - will most likely increase the crankcase pressure and cause oil leaks.
But if you really want more power just use the super charger and have it underdriven to no more than 10 lbs of boost.

Q: O/D light flashing on and off. Odometer not working.
A: the computer doesn't get a speed signal from the odometer but it senses that you have a gear in and that your rpm`s is higher than idle, thats why its doing that.
Q: I am getting my brakes done (again) and the same problem has re occured. When you hit the brakes you here the rotors when drivig the truck you hear this sound like it is constantly rubbing on something. the harder you push on the brakes the worse it sounds and as you begin to stop its like the dash board shakes. Please , what should i get fix the brakes, the shoes, rotors , or just everything.
A: you need to get a new seal and when you are at it, you might just as well change the timing belt and waterpump becuse its almost the same amount of time to do the seal.....just to save some money!!!
Q: Mush feel, front does not seem to be working.
fluid level unchanged. starting point?
A: Bleed the brakes. Your brake system probably has some air in it causing the "mush feel" that you are having. It would also be a good idea to flush the system with new fluid to remove any moisture that has built up. You should also check for leaks at the wheels and master cylinder.

Q: Wire that goes to the battery, looks as though it goes to a box just behind the battery the wire that is attached to the screw of the battery cable, gets too hot, what is the cause of this and what is this wire for?
A: I HAVE THE SAME TYPE OF BATTERY CABLE ON MY 1987 TOYOTA COROLLA. ON MINE, THERE IS FUSES IN THE BOX. IT SEEMS LIKE MINE GETS HOT TOO. THE FUSES WERE NOT TIGHT AND MY CAR DIDN'T START. NOW IT'S DOING THE SAME THING THE FUSES ARE GOOD AND IN TIGHT. DID YOU GET ANY INFO ON THIS?
(KWK) The wire is for the other devices that need battery power to operate . The fuses are to protect the wires from being damaged from excessive amps being drawn . The excessive heat is either because of dirty connections , ( disassemble and clean them ) , or something is drawing to much current .

Q: My rear window will no longer go down or up.
I think it's a fuse but can't figure out which fuse controlls the rear window mechanism. There's no sound of any electircal activity in the mechanism when I atempt to put it down so I assume it has to be a problem with either a fuse or the wireing.
Any hints about where to look for trouble spots?
A: First check all fuses.
Then check the switch.
Then check the window motor.
{Most likely one of these 3.}
