1999 Acura 2.3 CL Ignition System Malfunction When starting Always

key security light keeps flashing shuts off fuel system car was fine-then would not start

Hello, Have you tried a different key that is known to have started the car before this event?

Do you have instructions in an Owner's Manual applicable to the Security Light flashing?

i tried 3 keys - owners manual said if light keeps
flashing see dealer - i've talked to different
people about this and my 2 cents is its the chip
reader on the switch - i don't have any specific
manuals on this car [acura specific $ ]and i was
trying to narrow it down - test procedures - i assume there won't be a check engine code because the car will not start - and there is a lot of wires
on the key reader -$95.00 part acura specific -
[ not a good honda # 39730.sy8.ao2 ] but i could be
looking in the wrong direction anyways - Don

Acura has a Service Bullitin out #00-019 dated 04/28/03 that talks about the security system.

I can email it to you and I'll need your email address to do it.

It will give you good info but a trip to your Acura Dealer is likely.

another bit of information - i gave a shot of ether
and it fired right up - as the owners manual say's -it shuts off the fuel- my e-mail is

Correct. Even if the mechanical cut of the key is correct the transponder in the key must be "authorized/programmed" by system or fuel is cut off.

If the key "reader" part of the system has failed; the above is the result by default.
