My BMW was running fine, then starting stalling on me...now won't start even though the engine cranks strong. Replaced Fuel Filter, Plugs. Juice on all the plug wires pin 1(3?).

Listen for the fuel pump when you first turn on the key and during engine cranking. If you don't hear the fuel pump run you will not have fuel pressure which the engine needs to run.
1983 BMW 320i Engine Stalling When driving When warm
New User Asked -
need to let motor cool befor engine will start and let me progress a little.
macconeck -
does the starter crank at all or is there nothing when you turn the key?
how does your ntemp gauge read hot or normal?
a little more info is needed to diagnose your problem
New User -
The engine will crank but the battery runs down so I have to push the car to get it running again. The valves were adjusted several months ago, plugs and distributor cap were replaced. The pickup coil was replaced shortly after. The car seemed to be fine although the idle was a little high. I didn't adjust the idle because I'm not sure how.

sir if you can push the car to start it then the problem is your starter is not putting out and cranking like it should .
the starter is the culprit here replace the starter and have a check done on your battery as your constant use of the starter could have worn it down to the point of not holding a desent charge.
hope this helps

Why should the car stall in the first place?
macconeck -
it is possible your alternator is going out
will it start up with a jump start?
after you start it turn on the head lights and watch your alternator reading
then pull off you positive batt cable to see
if the car runs or stalls then turn on your head lights and see the results

I don't think the alternator is the problem, but I can check it. When the engine cools a little it will start. When it heats up again it will start to miss. I guess a missfire well cause a stall. I agree that the problem seems to be electrical. However I just changed Distributor cap, Pickup coil and the battery checks out OK. It's only when I try to start the car after a stall and while still warm will I run the risk of wearing down the battery.

ok
New User -
OK to what?
macconeck -
you said you were going to check the alternator.
I said ok to that.
It is possible that the stalling is unrelated to the starting problem

Hello,
I've re-opened this question at the customer's request.
Mark,

macconeck -
what is the status since we last talked
New User -
This is my sons car.
He reolaced the alternator several weeks ago.

if all the electrical checks out good you need to look at a fuel related issue.
it is possible that fuel is not properly getting to the injectors, that is common in the case of a warm engine.
check you fuel filter also.
turn ignition...nothing happens. no clicks, cranks, or anything. more ignition back to "on" position, fuel pump relay starts clicking, dashboard lights blink to the clicking, all needles (fuel, speed, tachometer) move to the clicking
New User -
if i put the hazards on, and try the ignition, i will get one or two clicks

This sounds like a classic example of a bad connection/ground. Try removing and cleaning the battery clamps and posts, along with the engine and body grounds. Reconnect and see if this makes a difference. Additionally make sure the battery cables themselves are okay.
