2000 Cadillac Catera All Part Groups   

Occaisionally doesnt start. cranks when the key is turned, but doesnt fire. replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump. check engine light is not on at all. can sometimes drive for days, with repeated starts, and no problem, then, it will leave me stuck.

I want to add that when the car doesnt start, if I leave it (usually overnight) the car will start right up without a problem, and I can then drive it to my destination. (and it may start several times after that) Whenever I have had to have it towed (because of not starting) it always starts right up at the repair shop. This is very frustrating, as when it starts up, there never appears to be a problem. I have learned why mechanics call this car the 'Caterrible'! (although they all say the engineering on the car is amazing)

We see a lot of problems with the crank position sensor causing your symptoms. Much cheaper to change than the fuel pump, and a good guess as well.

We replaced the crank position sensor and everything seems to be fine! Thanks a lot!
