Cadillac Convertible

1968 Cadillac Convertible Engine   

I have a 1968 Cadillac 472 Engine. Just purchased the car. Changed the oil and filter put in 5 quarts. Dip stick shows low about 2 quarts. I know the engine was rebuilt. Did Cadillac have any extra capacity oil pans? Can't figure it out. Should I put in the extra oil or drive it showing down 2 quarts.

There may be a larger capacity oil pan on the engine. Make sure you wait long enough for the oil to settle before checking level.

Douglas one more question. Do I fill the oil up to the full line on the stick or leave it low? I changed the oil 2x and let it sit same results. Thanks, Joe

Will it hurt the engine if its got too much oil

To much oil is considered more harmful than running on the lower end of the safe range.

Do you have an owners manual that states the oil capacity?
