1988 Chev Celebrity Engine Won't Start When turning Always

I have a 1988 chevy celebrity 2.8L.

When i first bought car 1 month ago it needed a battery, starter and alternator, then was on highway and all power was sucked out of battry I bought another battery cuz told warranty not covered.

Anyways found a short in glove box and before trunk lid, engine hood lite and interior lite and stereo did not work and once found the all was restored.

When test driven after finding the short it stalled and has never started since.

There is no spark but there is fuel for sure!!

BEEN TOLD WHEN BATTERY DRAINED COMPLETELY THE COMPUTER "FORGET" HOW TO FIRE!!!

IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO THIS?? WHERE DO I START TESTING OR WHERE DO I START ???

Hi;
My first check will be the distributor module. A lot of auto part stores will check it for you for free. This is what tells the coil when to fire the spark plugs. Also take the cap off and inspect it real good. Sometimes they will crack inside and cause the spark to go to the shortest ground. Also take a look at the button on the cap. It will ware out and cause a bad connection. Good Luck Les.

Hi;
If the battery goes dead it does not the computer does not forget how to fire. The computer has to get a signal from the distributor. All this does it tells it how many RPM is running. Lets go with what I adviced, and thats the only way to start. I will be willing to answer to any question you got. Thanks Les.

have problem with a fuel pump and the inyector is not open the circuit when you open the ingition switch key to star and the pump too. other is the relay is not open the circuit to send power to the pump

There is no fuel pump or fuel injector operation? If not, is there spark to the spark plugs?

what I need to know is the wiring sisteam of the fuel pump and the carburartor inyector both did not working when you open the ingnition key to on. the fuel pump is not working I have a electric problem from the computer to the fuel pump relay

I should repeat, if the cars computer module does not know the engine is cranking it has no reason to run the pump or fuel injectors (modern carburetor). That is why I suggested check for spark to the spark plugs first.

Douglas, I undesrtand what to tray to tell me about the spark in the spark plug, I do have spark, that is not the problem, other the car is cranking great, when you cranking is no power on the pump it self, and the inyector is not open and wont spray, I put a litle gas in the carburator and the car star, is just the power in the pump and the injector.

Okay, did you get the link with the diagrams to work?

Note- check for Key ON (POSITIVE) voltage to the fuel injector. Do this while using a known good ground. This will let us know if power OR ground is missing. The power should always be there while the Key is ON. The ground is supplied by the computer (ECM).

1985 Chev Celebrity Engine Malfunction When repairing Always

I have a 2.8liter 3-speed transmission I recently had the flex plate of tranny replaced.After the fix the car started just fine(with a very high idle),but engine oil started leaking badly(from bottom of engine) after warm-up.Plus it did not want to start when it rained. Did the trannsmission place mess up? Is it worth fixxing?

Hello, Since the tranny has to be moved back from the engine to replace the flex plate (FLYWHEEL), that is the perfect opportunity to replace the rear main seal because access is a given. I would hope you were afforded the chance to approve a new rear main seal. On a vehicle this many years in service, it should have been anticipated/discussed.

Did they mess up your old seal? That's a tough call for you and me. Ask why it leaks now and didn't before their work. If your business is important to them they should show some concern. And cut you a deal.

Hard starting when raining can be moisture condensing inside the distributor cap. Take a look in there and check the condition of the rotor bug, too. Are the contacts erroding?

Is it worth fixing? Only you can assign that kind of worth value. If it's driving your finances crazy and you have another way to go, decide if money spent now is just a patch or a fix.
