1987 Chev Spectrum Electrical / Lighting Systems Malfunction  

Lights won't come on when turning the light switch on. The lights will come on when flick the high beam on but won't stay on. Change the bulbs and nothing change.

Hello, Have you checked for blown fuses or a bad headlamp relay?

Lifting on the turn signal lever shows you that the FLASH TO PASS feature of the headlamp system is working. This particular feature often has a seperate power supply from the regular headlamp circuits and will fool you into believing all the fuses must be good.

Do you have an Owner's Manual to guide you on fuse/relay locations?

I have check for blown fuses and all are okay. But I haven't checked the lamp relays, don't know where to look for that and don't have owner's manual.

Do you have a FAX number? Will a cover sheet be needed? I can send you some good info.

Looks like the headlight switch receives power from a fusible link from the battery. I don't see a relay or a fusebox fuse involved. If you have power at the combination switch on the RED-BLK wire your fusible link is good and most likely the switch has failed.

The first thing I change was the light switch, thinking that was the problem. I will check the fuseable link when I have time and will let you know.

Since you are familliar with the light switch it will be easy to check for power on the RED-BLK wire in the connector to verify the fusible link condition.

I've seen cars with both headlamp bulbs burned out, too.

I have sold that car. The guy that bought said, he's going to use it as spare parts. I told him about the light problem and he wasn't too concern about it.
