Chrysler Intrepid

2004 Chrysler Intrepid Drive Train / Driveline

New User Asked -
p0700 and p1776 fault codes

Bruce Kit -
p0700 is the transmission control system.Check wiring to the TCM (Transmission Control Module)
p1776 is the Low/reverse pressure switch in solenoid box on frt of trans.Another poss, reason could be Transmission Control Rely in box under hood drivers side.Swap it with another relay (same part #) and see if it helps. If not check fuse Q in same box and fuses connection there.Try shaking wiring harness in the Transmission controller.

New User -
do you know if there is any tsr or recalls on this problem?

Bruce Kit -
None that I know of but a call to your local Chrysler dealer might tell you.
You might also check with your local auto trans shop, as they might know.

Roger -
Hi, I'll look for service bulletins on this. Have you contacted a Dealer service department for advice? What did they say?

I found a bulletin on this subject. Please tell me your email address and I'll send you a copy.

Thanks,

Roger

Waiting to hear from you. May I have your email address please?

1997 Chrysler Intrepid Ignition System

New User Asked -
My 97 intrepid was running badly(chugging backfiring through the airbox)Seemed to run better after adding fuel injector cleaner a few times, then went right back to the same.I started it up the other morning, aut it in drive, went about 10 feet, and it just died.It turns over but will not start. It has no spark.I replaced the coil, still no spark.Fuel filter was also replaced.I think it could be the computer.Where is it located?I see one on the inner fender well, next to the battery, but I think it is for the transmission. Can you help?(3.3 engine)

Roger -
Hello, Have you checked for power to the coil when the key is ON? Does the fuel pump run for a couple seconds when the key is first switched ON? Is fuel pressure OK? Have you checked for power to the fuel injectors with the key ON?

If all the above checks out I'd recommend a crankshaft position sensor.

Roger

New User -
I hooked a meter to the coil input plug, and get a voltage reading, but only when I turn the engine over,no reading with the key in the foward position only.I can hear the fuel pump come on.Still sound like a crank sensor?Where is it located?

Roger -
With the key ON the auto shutdown relay (ASD) should energize and provide power to the coil on the Dk Green/Org wire.

The ASD is powered by Fuse B (20 amp) in the Power Distribution Center under the hood. If Fuse B is good try a new ASD relay. That should energize the ignition coil.

Please advise,

Roger

New User -
No voltage @ green orang wire, unless car is being turned over.all Fuses are good checked with ohm meter, all relays have the same values on them,so I switched a few relays with the asd relay, car still won't start.Next?

Roger -
What is your email address please so I may send you all three sheets of the engine controls wiring diagram?

That ASD relay is drawn to energize when the key is on rather than wait for cranking of the engine. With the key on and the ASD relay removed, how many terminals in the relay socket have battery voltage? There should be two that do.

I'll start preparing the email of the diagrams. I'll need to scan them.

Roger

New User -
I have voltage @ two terminals at the asd.My email is [redacted]

Roger -
I'll send the diagrams with the subject INTREPID. If not in your inbox soon please check spam/junk mail.

Roger

New User -
All I have recieved is a list of causes for the problem. Is there anything else?

Roger -
Yes, there should have been three pages of wiring diagrams. I'll resend those diagrams.

Thanks,

Roger

Roger -
Try this first...

When you open the .pdf file and see the list of causes displayed look at the very top of the window just below the word DOCUMENT. Do you see a blue arrow pointing to the right? Click that arrow to advance through the wiring diagrams. They should be there.

Try checking the trouble codes. Your intrepid should display codes one of two ways: either by flashing the check engine light (2 digit codes) OR by displaying the codes in the odometer area (codes displayed as PXXXX, this applies to some Dodges with digital odometer).

To activate self test mode:

Turn the Key On, then Off, On, Off, and On again (three times withing five seconds).

Now the check engine light will begin to flash codes OR the codes will display in the odometer area.

Check engine light codes-

First the tens place will be displayed. Example- Flash Flash equals two flashes for the tens place (we know this code will be twenty-something).

Then the ones place will flash after a longer pause. Flash Flash Flash would be three. This example would be trouble code 23.

If you have trouble counting the flashes turn the key off and start over.

The odometer area codes will display, example P0303, P0401, etc.

Autozone will also loan you a code reader for a fully refundable deposit.

Let me know which if any codes are found. Note- if the battery is disconnected the codes are erased.

Something else- Test the ohms of the crank and cam sensors (unplugged). While there is not a recommended reading, we still know that shorted or open cannot function.

New User -
I will try the dash codes.I do not have a digital odometer.Where are the crank and cam sensors located on this car,so I can check them with an ohm-meter

Douglas -
Visit autozone.com and register your car. Then click on Vehicle Repair Guides to access a free online repair manual for your car. This will have pictures of the sensors, etc.

Let us know what you find and we'll continue.

New User -
Ok,sorry for the delay, life gets in the way sometimes.I registered at autozone.com,and it does not give the location of the crank and cam sensors, they say to contact a chrysler dealer.I also got a computer from autozone, but it won't read any codes, because the check engine light is not on.I tried to read the codes from the check engine light, and as far as I can tell,it looks like 12,13 14.

Douglas -
At autzone.com click on:

'Vehicle Repair Guides'

then

'Electronic Engine Controls'

then- 'Crankshaft Position Sensor' (CKPS)

New User -
Tried this,it says consult a dealer, like it is A trade secret.

Douglas -
Which engine do you have?

While logged into Autozone, copy this link into your address bar--

Let me know if this works.
