I need to replace the engine in my 1988 Dodge Raider. It has the 2.6 liter 4 cylinder Mitsubishi engine in it currently. Will a 2.6 liter 4 cylinder Mitsubishi engine out of a 1988 Dodge Caravan interchange with the Raider? If not what is the differences and can they be adapted?
Thanx, John

Hi;
Everything should be an eazy swap. Might have to change a few brackets but as as far as the engine, it should be a bolt on and go. Good Luck Les.

I know the heads are different with the"jet ports" in the Caravan head. But the bolt pattern on the rear of the block is what I'm concerned with. I've been told that the pattern on the Caravan, which is frontwheel drive and sideways mounted is entirely different than the rear wheel drive Raider. I've also been told that the adapter plate on the rear of the engine that will bolt up to either. I've also been told that the exhaust manifold were not nearly the same and would not interchange. But Iv'e not talked to anyone that says they have actually tried this swap. I can't seem to find an enginee out of a Raider or D50 but the Caravan engines are numerous."

Hi again:
The bolt pattern should be the same on the back of the engine. As far as the exhaust, if needed to you can have a muffler shop build you an adapter pipe for your purpose. As far as trying the swap, any mechanic will tell you that the only way to realy figure out is have engines sitting on the floor side by side and then you will see the whole picture. Les.
