Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Pick-up

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Pick-up Heating / Cooling System

New User Asked -
I would like to see a schematic of the climate control system. I get very little heat thru my vents and defroster. When I turn on the Max A/C I get 120deg. heat on the hottest setting.

Roger -
Hello, Are you wanting a wiring schematic for the system? I will need your email address please.

Does your engine warm up to normal operating temp? Do you have access to a diagnostic scanner to read sensor feedback parameters?

Have you considered back-flushing the heater core?

How would you like to begin?

Roger

New User -
My water temp. gauge reads about 175 deg.
My discharge temp. at the vent is about 60 deg. when the outside temp. is 0 deg.
When I put it on Max A/C at the hottest setting, I get between 110 deg. and 140 deg. discharge temp. at the vent. that would be alright except my windows then fog up.

I would like to see a schematic of the venting system to determine if a damper is malfunctioning.

I'm sorry, I am not finding a drawing of the HVAC Case and it's doors.

Does the air delivery follow your selction and switch to a/c, heat, defrost, all right?

How hot do the heater core hoses feel? Is one much cooler than the other? If so a restriction in the core or a hot water control valve malfunction may be present.

I hear what you are saying about air flow out the a/c vents can be twice as hot as air delivered to the heater outlet. I'm looking for the cause.

175 degree engine temp is a little cool. Is the coolant level full and free of air?

If I'm just too slow for your needs you may release the question so that others may try to help.

Still looking,

Roger

New User -
The delivery seems fine.
About the tempurature,i'm averaging the estemate based on where my indicating needle falls between 130 deg. and 220 deg. on my gauge on the dash.

I brought it to a mechanic, and he feels the same thig as you. The heater core is possibly partially clogged. Is there anyway to unclog it ,or is replacement the nly option?

Roger -
Back-flushing the heater core might be all that is needed. It's worth a try. Success has limitations depending on how old the coolant is. It sure doesn't take much to stop up the heater core. It holds about a quart of coolant. Flow tubes are quite small.

Replacing the core eliminates flow concerns. It costs more and has a warranty. Are you going to keep the truck?

Choose the path that works for your budget.

1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Pick-up Drive Train / Driveline

New User Asked -
my truck is 4x4 and made a noise like a gear trying to engage but was just raking the teeth and couldn't fully engage, now my four wheel drive won't work?

Douglas -
Is this a manual or automatic transmission?

New User -
it's automatic w/odrive. The truck still drives good and I haven't heard the noise any more.

Douglas -
The front axle actuator (vacuum) is a very common failure on these, results in loss of 4 wd. Try backing up a bit while trying to engage. If all fails and the vacuum actuator is working, the transfer case may be the problem.

New User -
I had the vacuum motor off and it will move and hold vacuum in both directions. What in the transfer case would sound like gears clashing?

New User -
I don't think we are finished here. What about the transfer case and possible problem with that? What are the possibilities and remedies? The last word was
it may be the CAD unit on the axle, but it's in good
shape. Where do we go from here?

Douglas -
Sorry for the delay.

Can you let me know if you have the NV241 transfer case?

New User -
No I have the new process 231D Transfer case.

Douglas -
Start by checking the shift linkage. Also jack the vehicle up and support it on jackstands. Place in 4wd and see if the front drive shaft is turning.

Sorry for delay, I've been sick.

New User -
No it just won't engage. Would the vacuum switch cause my problem?
