2005 Hyundai Accent Heating / Cooling System

Stan Asked -
The list does not include the SantaFe V6 4WD, which this one is. The fan speed switch quick working on low, then 2, then 3, then 4, then hi. I lodged a penny under the knob because that made it work in high for a while. What needs fixing? How?

Roger -
Hi, Losing one fan speed at a time until all have quit?

Can you access the fan speed control switch connection to the wire harness? Determine if power arrives at the switch on the Pnk/Blk wire when the key is in the ON position. Then if power is there move the fan speed selection through the range of speed choices. Does the switch output power on the selected speed wire?

Low fan speed is the White wire.
ML speed is the Gray wire.
MH is gthe Brn wire.
Hi Fan is the Blue wire.

If power comes into the switch on the Pnk/Blk wire but doesn't leave the switch....replace the fan speed switch.

Questions?

Roger

Stan -
Hi Roger,
From your answer I infer that the fan switch may be the problem and it can be replaced without replacing a module. I can troubleshoot the switch. I cannot access the switch. There is all of the dash and under dash stuff between me and the back of the A/C control area. So my question, "How?" {how can it be replaced?} must be the $ question. The answer might include...
# how to get to the back of the switch, how to remove what panels, etc.
# "test the switch"
# what part number to buy
# how to replace the switch
# how to replace panels, etc.
Thanks,
Stan

Roger -
Stan, I can type what the data base says about accessing/removing the control panel but it is pretty vague.

It says to disconnect two control cables from the HVAC Case. One is on each side of the case and connects to door linkage. You'd have to be on the floor of the car to see these cable connections.

Next remove the center facia panel from the lower portion. Disconnect the switch connectors and remove the center facia panel.

Once you have done this you can test the switch for continuity by comparing where the wires would connect to the color match I sent you previously.

I don't have a part number for the switch. Replacing the switch should be easy as with the control panel removed you can see how it attaches.

Reassenbly is reverse order of disassembly.

I hope this helps. I am traveling so my resources are limited.

2002 Hyundai Accent Chassis / Suspension & Steering Making Noise When turning When warm

New User Asked -
When I turn I am hearing a whining noise sometimes after I am driving for a while in the front left wheel it seems. I also am hearing a plop plog noise when I apply brakes off and on. Someone said it may be the Wheel bushing or tire rod?

Gro -
From your description, it actually sounds like a CV joint. To visually and physically inspect what might be the problem, Jack the car up on the offending side. The CV joint is the part that connects transmission to wheel, it has a large rubber boot , check to see if that boot it torn or if there is a lot of grease around it. Feel it to see if seems loose. Check both sides of car. Shake wheel as it is off ground, a wheel bushing *bearing* would make wheel wobble in and out as you shake it. Tire...TIE rod end is part of the steering. feel the connections on the steering while car is jacked up to tell if they are worn and visually inspect for any grease, cracked rubber etc.

New User -
Okay, we'll try this and get back to you. Thanks so much!

New User -
What is the price of the CV joing from your company?

New User -
The person working on the car said that he checked the front end (he said)? He said it sounds like metal touching in his opinion. When the brakes were done they person did not cut the roaters. Could this also be a cause as he states? I am a woman and don't want these guys having me change all this stuff keeping me going back and forth and still it isn't repaired?

Gro -
Yes, the rotors might be warped from high heat of stopping, this in turn could cause the front wheel bearings to wear out. When you have it fixed tell the person working on it you would like to look at the car while it is taken apart to replace these parts (rotors, or what ever) Make them show you the rotor while still on car, You can tell if it is warped or scored badly, also if it is wheel bearings you can have them show you the broken bearing. Rotors do need turned or replaced at every brake replacement, and wheel bearings can wear out and break if there is wobbling in front end due to warped rotors.

2000 Hyundai Accent Electrical / Lighting Systems  Happens always Always

Kaps Asked -
Check Light on my car dash board is always on. Earlier it used to come and go, i repaired it so 2-3 times and for a month or 2 it didn't come after that it comes back and at times it goes automatically.
I thought it can be fuel problem so i stuck for tesco's for fuel.
Now the light is on permanently. Recently my car just didn't start and the garage ppl gave me the reason of fuel not passing properly, so they changed the fuel pump. I thought this might solve the light problem but it didn't.
Can anyone tell me what should i do to get this light switch off.
Thanks
Sachin

Roger -
Hello, Have you had your car checked for diagnostic trouble codes? Codes are read with a code reader or scanner that plugs into your car. They guide the repairman where to look for the trouble that turned the Check Engine Light "ON".

How did you repair the car "2-3 times" in the past? What was wrong then?

Please advise,

Roger

Kaps -
Thanks for the reply
I have been surfing the net for the same problem, and i figured that i have to get the OBDII Check which will give a code Pxxxxx and through that i will be able to know what cause the check light on... hope i am right.
Earlier my car was under warranty and the garage ppl just told me it was a setting problem and that they have solved it

Roger -
"National auto parts chain stores in my area will check your car for codes (OBDII Check) at no charge and tell you what they find. See if you have this service available in your area.

Write down the codes and we can start a diagnostic path for repair. Be advised the parts store will not usually clear the codes due to liability issues. Not even if you buy the parts from them and they know you replaced what they suggested.

Let me know what you find,

Roger"

Kaps -
Sorry for the delay. but i got the code
its P1128, P0300, P0302
The machanic said i need to change the spart plug and leads and it will sort out... i am not sure abt that... what do you think... abt these code

Roger -
Okay, now I can start looking into what to suggest.

Roger

Roger -
The code P0300 is a "Random Misfire Detected". Codes P0301-P0304 are respective to a misfire on cylinder by number. P0302 indicates a misfire on cylinder #2.

Code P1128 has to do with fuel mixture being too lean for too long at slow RPMs.

I believe it wise to ensure fuel octane is at least 87. Replacing the spark plugs and their wires should get things back to normal. After replacing the plugs and wires I would clear the codes and drive the car to see if the P1128 or any code sets.

Do you have a FAX number? Would a cover sheet be needed? I can send you some info from the Mitchell 1 Auto Repair Data Base relevant to your car's problem.

Your thoughts?,

Roger

Kaps -
Thanks Roger...
I am going to change the spark plug and leads tomorrow. I will let you know what happens...
do i have to cancel the code after i replace these parts or the light will go off automatically?
Will removing the battery wire for 10 mins clear the code?

you can fax the paper on 004[redacted]
if you are in UK then 0[redacted]

Thanks a lot
Sachin

Roger -
I suggest you disconnect the car battery for 10 minutes BEFORE you do any repairs and see if the light goes off. If it does you can decide to replace parts or wait and see what happens.

If the car has enough miles on it that you are comfortable with the expense of the parts as preventive maintenance, you may choose to go ahead and replace them anyway.

I'll try to FAX three pages,

Roger

Roger -
I've made seven attempts at sending you a FAX. Guess my line will not dial internationally without upgrading my service.

I hope we can resolve your problem. Sorry for the disappointment.

Roger

Roger -
Any news here?

Roger

Kaps -
I changed the plug wire and plugs ... still no luck. the light is back.

Roger -
Are the same diagnostic codes back? Did you disconnect the battery to clear the codes and drive the car to see if any codes set before you replaced any parts?

Roger

Roger -
What is the status here, please? Roger

Kaps -
Hello,
I have the light back, and now the hyundai ppl are saying i have to change some coil, which will cost me another 150£.
Do you know what is this coil, as i can buy the part from hyundai and ask my friend who is a mechanic to change it... i am sure it will save me some money.

Roger -
What coil are they telling you is needed? You stated "some coil".

Roger

Kaps -
They asre saying the lead that go into the coil that has to be changed... but now they are saying may be thats not the problem.... i have spent a lot of time and money on it and ... these ppl just want to take money from you.. so i think i will live it.. let the light be on..
you have done whatever information i had given you which i appriciate... thanks for everything

1999 Hyundai Accent Engine

New User Asked -
I have a 1999 Hyundai Accent, It suddenly goes dead sometimes,no check engine light stays on,hooked up my auto x ray 4000 and configured it,computer will not respond.checked fuses and grounds all ok.

Douglas -
Stop by an Advance Auto or Autozone store and have them check the trouble codes. This will let you know if there is a problem communicating with the computer (PCM) that needs attention OR a problem unique to your scanner.

When the engine stalls, does it shut off instantly (just as if you flipped the switch) or does it stutter/stumble as if you are running out of gas?

Have you checked to see if there are any service bulletins at the Hyundai site? This information (along with repair information) is free from Hyundai, the only manufacturer to offer service information free of charge.

You must fill out a simple registration first. Then you can access the same repair information the dealership uses.

New User -
from [redacted] Thank You for your suggestions.I never had any problem with my scanner, but it is a posibility why it won't respond to the 1999 Hyundai Accent.car has 36,000 miles. It suddenly stops, then you have to wait about 15 to 30 minutes before it starts up,then it runs fine with no check engine light on.

New User -
from [redacted] I have alldata on the hyundai 1999 4 cylinder.I didn't see any bulletins or anything related to the problem.

Douglas -
Have you been able to determine if you are losing spark during the no start period?

What about power to the dash, does the check engine illuminate as it normally does when you turn the key on?

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you initially turn the key on and during engine cranking?

New User -
Thank You for your answer. I drove the hyundai to a friends house, it quit running suddenly at his drive way.He scanned the computer and found it had a code for a bad crand sensor.I don't know why my scanner would not respond and why the check engine light did not come on.Replaced crank sensor runs fine. Thanks again.

Douglas -
I don't know why either, sometimes it just happens. Which scanner did you friend have?

1995 Hyundai Accent Electrical / Lighting Systems

New User Asked -
while driving to work yesterday my blower motor and healights stopped working/i checked the fuses and relays all seem to be in good wording order/never had any electrical problems with this car and it has no modifications/wondering ign switch?bad ground? what the h@ll?

Roger -
Hello, I'll get my hands on a wiring schematic today and see what is in common here.

Are the highbeam headlamps also inop? Have you verified there is no voltage to the blower motor or the headlight connector?

Back today,

Roger

New User -
YES BOTH HIGH AND LOW BEAMS

Roger -
Thank you! Nothing is open yet so I will have to wait for access to the Mitchell I Auto Repair Data Base later this morning.

Do you have an owners manual that lists the fuse/relay purposes? I can't imagine headlamp and blower motor on the same power feed circuit but as you suspect it could be a common ground point. We'll see. Headlamps do not usually feed through ignition switch circuits but I will assume nothing.

Roger

New User -
THE HEADLIGHT USED TO TURN OFF WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED OFF BUT THE PARKING LIGHTS WOULD REMAIN ON

Roger -
The Data Base will help me make a suggestion to you. I've printed your input so I'll have the clues with me when I go.

Roger

New User -
COOL

Roger -
Dash fuse 16 (10amp) powers both the headlamp relay and the blower relay. Fuse 16 gets it's power from the ignition switch when in the "ON" position. If your dash fuse 16 is good you likely have an ignition switch problem.

Do you have a FAX number? Would you like for me to FAX the schematics to you?

Please advise,

Roger

New User -
oh my god yes please [redacted]

Roger -
Okay, I will do that! Do I need a cover sheet for the FAX?

Roger

Roger -
I will send you the power distribution, the ground distribution, the headlight system and the a/c system schematics. You'll want to keep these for reference.

Hope it gets you where you want to be,

Roger
