New User Asked -
After warm-up, the car will run fine while transmission is in Park but when I shift to Drive it stalls. I can nurse it to move forward but it doesn't run well and when I stop at the nest place the problem starts again. Vacume Leak?

Does it do the same thing in reverse? How about in neutral? Or with the brakes on? Or when the steering is held against the lock?

These answers may help us determine if it is a transmission, electrical, or engine problem

Is the check engine light on? If so, it will be helpful to scan it and find out what codes are stored.

New User -
No problem when in neutral or with brakes on. Steering wheel doesn't weem to have any effect.

Check engine light is not on and I haven't tried reverse. I am at work at the moment.

Write back when you have a chance.

I asked about the steering, because you can put an alternate load on the engine by holding the power steering against the end of its travel. This will put a load on the engine without it being the transmission.

New User -
It doesn't matter if it is in reverse or forward. The steering wheel has no effect.

Here are some common causes of hesitation in the Grand Cherokees. See which matches best.

Bad oxygen sensor. Can give poor running especially during the warm-up period, then improves when warm. Will usually turn on the check engine light if malfunctioning when the engine is warm.

Low fuel pressure. This can give a hesitation, especially noticible on quick acceleration and going up hills. Can be caused by weak pump, or clogged filter.

Skewed MAP sensor. This can make the engine run rich or lean and may be constant, or intermittent. Usually will turn on the check engine light before the symptoms are bad enough to notice.

Bad crank sensor. This can make a bucking/backfiring/missing, most often at higher RPMs. It should turn on the check engin elight if it is consistent enough for the driver to notice.

Is the check engine bulb working? It should turn on when you turn the key on before starting the engine.
