Hello, Please confirm the car's year & model for me.
Did you have previous dialog with an All Parts technician on this same question? Did you release the question, or accept an answer?
Please advise,
Roger
New User -
yes I did have dialog with one of your other technicians, but we couldn't gain access due to
your company's response going into my wifes
spam alert. we would appreciate only being billed
once - the car is a 94 Lincoln Town Car with
automatic climate control
Roger -
You won't be billed twice as such action would require you to post a second fee. As technicians we cannot even authorize a financial transaction of any sort. Your original fee is posted with All Parts when you start this process. Technicians are not paid anything until you accept an answer. Not one technician has office space at All Parts. We are scattered all over the continent. The Internet makes this possible.
That said, do you wish to continue with the first tech that responded? What is his name? If you did not accept his answer he has not been paid.
After moving from a 1994 MarkVIII I quickly realized that I made a huge performance and economy mistake.
The 1994 was like no other car that I have ever owned.
The power was unbelievable. The economy is not believed by anyone except those that have driven this 1994 Mark. 80 MPH at a flat 2000 RPM. Depending only on wind direction at 80 was from 28.75 to 31.00 MPG. In town 18.50 MPG.
3000 RPM is over 100 MPH 200 MPH is estimated 3900 RPM. All of this on 87 Octane fuel.
The 97 is a more refined and appointed vehicle but that is it! With the same platform as the 1994 Ford detuned it so poorly that Road mileage is about 24 MPG and city is barely 14 MPG.
After some research I realized that the differential ration was lowered. This was a really stupid move by Ford. They deserve all of the trouble that they are in. To refine a fine platform like the 1994 (they must have lucked into it)and produce a performance "klunker".
My quest is to locate a Mark VIII differntial, with the same ratio as the 1994. Knowing Ford they probably did'nt produce one and the 1994 will not be
interchangeable with the 1997 frame.
The 1997 does 80 MPH at nearly 2500 RPM. That is a 25% detuning. Thank you Ford engineers.

Finding a rear would be impossible , changing the gears makes more sense.
Ford Motorsport makes many different
gear options for the trusty 8.8 rear.
That would be the most cost effective and simple fix.

Thank you but that was only a repeat of my inquiry and was of no help at all.
I would appreciate info on where these differential gears are available, their estimated cost and the estimated labor to make the swiotch.
Also the higher ratio should be estimanted from the 2000 RPM to develope 80 MPH.
I will be looking for a response to my inquiry.
thank you.
Bob Karoly.
