1999 Lincoln Lincoln Interior Components Leaking  Always

New User Asked -
My 1998, 1999, and 2000 Town Cars all flood on the front passenger side when it rains. What causes this?

Sterlingfixer -
The cause of your flooding is leaves and other debris building up and clogging the drains under the wiper area. The rain water then drains into the car. Remove the covers under the wipers/under the hood and clean out the debris. It seems like this will need to be done every 2-5 years depending on the number of leaves falling on your car.

I HAVE AN 1998 TOWN CAR TOURING ED IT HAS A BAD INTERIOR AND UNDERCARRIGE NOISE AND VIBRATION ALSO LIKES TO LEAK TRANS FLUID LIKE ITS BUILDING PRESSURE RECENT WORK WAS NEW U JOINTS REPLACE REAR TAIL SHAFT REBALANCE DRIVE SHAFT VIBRATES AND NOISE STARTS AT 4-45 KEEPS GOING LIGHTENS UP A LITTLE AT 65 NO CHANGE IN NOISE OR VIBRATION WHEN PUT INTO NEUTRAL

Douglas -
Hello,

Did the vibration occur after the parts were replaced? Or was the problem present (the same) before replacement?

New User -
all was there prior as to why the work was done no change even after work was done. it vibrates and becomes noise what feels to be the midsection of vehicle that may travel to the rear diff it starts to what sounds like 4 choppy tires then vibration can be felt in the seats and especially the arm rest none in the front end nor the steering wheel i also seem to notice the trans habitually leaks although all seals have been replaced i can drive it 1 mile and there are noticeable leaks from around the pan and tail both of those have been replaced no change either

1995 Lincoln Lincoln Electrical / Lighting Systems

New User Asked -
"95 Towncar quit running and will not start. All fuses are OK. All relays appear OK. Strange electrical things are happening. Turn on ignition and left front courtesy light is on. On dash panel the abs light is on, the high beam indicator light is on but the headlights are off and the left turn indicater light is on. When the left turn signal is depressed, the abs light flashes. When the right signal is applied, the fuel pump clicks on and off with the signal light. The air pump for the suspension works with the doors open. The keyless entry system does not function with the "fob". Iam sure there are other electrical abnormalties that I have not discovered. What can be causing this unusual behavior?

Bruce Kit -
I find that usually when there are weird or multiple weird problems there is an electrical ground circuit problems. The first place I would look is the wiring beside the battery and check the engine ground straps. The engine is usually grounded at the rear, and sometimes on the side near the engine mounts.
Another thing you can test is the state of charge in the battery.A low voltage in the battery can cause some strange symptoms.
A third thing you could have checked is the code situation with a 'code reader' This can tell you if their is a computer issue or related problem.
But my first instinct is a grounding problem, causing the electrical current to go in directions it was not intended to. I would hate to send you looking for ground problems as the Linclon has many in hundreds of feet of wiring.

Is there a way to disconnect the chime ona 1994 lincoln continental continental, The DCL lignt and chime comes on all the time

Hello, With the chime sounding follow the sound to the chime module and unplug it. I don't anticipate any consequence so long as you remain alert to removing the keys and turning off the exterior lights when exiting the vehicle.

1994 Lincoln Lincoln Heating / Cooling System

New User Asked -
1994 Town Car (electronic control assembly) heater a/c fan will not shut off unless ignition is off but the
rest of the control assembly seems to function. In
addition to the fan not shutting off I hear the sound
of one of the duct systems flappers opening and
closing (non-stop) with the ignition on.
1. 1.5 plus year ago the heater core was replaced.
2. blower motor and heater resister assembly replaced.
--- Joe ---

Douglas -
Start by checking to see if the relay is sticking on.

I assume the fan runs on high when the key is on.

I'll check to see if there are any bulletins on the problem.

New User -
the relay (you mean the a/c blower motor control /
resistor?). If so when I replaced this item a while
back there were no moving parts. In addition I asked
a question regarding a clicking sound under the
dash board.

Joe

Roger -
Joe, let me look at a wiring diagram for your car. I believe Douglas was referring to a blower motor high fan speed relay stuck in the energized mode. Your car may or may not even have such a relay.

A clicking sound you describe is likely a mode door or a temperature blend door actuator that has stripped gears. The fix is to replace the actuator once determined which one has the problem.

Roger

Roger -
Joe, What is your email address please? I'll send you a wiring diagram for the climate control system.

Your car does not have a blower speed relay but rather a blower speed controller. (A module) I believe the controller has failed.

Roger

Roger -
Is this the text of the original question you posted??

Roger -
Thank you. I will write to the Site Administrator and have him cancel/refund that question.

Do you want the wiring diagram I offered? I'll need your email address please....

Roger

New User -
I have a Haynes Automotive manual which includes
the a/c heater wiring diagram.

Roger -
Ok, have you considered replacing the blower speed controller?

Roger

New User -
if you are referring to the a/c blower motor control
kit (ford part # 19E624)yes. I guess what I have a problem with
is the fact that I installed one a few years back
(dealer item - expensive) and now it needs to be
replaced again!

Roger -
Try testing the blower motor amp draw with the engine running, the blower on hi speed, and after one minute of operation.

Excessive amp draw from the blower motor will fail an electronic speed controller. It can't handle hi amps.

Perhaps a salvage part would lower your cost.

Roger

New User -
If the existing blower is drawing too many amps
what would cause this? On another note I obtained
another blower & blower motor control (salvage)
today

Joe

Roger -
A couple things can cause high amp draw. One would be worn armature bushings creating heat. Another would be the fan cage wheel is out of balance causing excessive drag on the bushings.

Roger

New User -
armature bearings - are they part of the fan?

Is it possible that the a/c compressor pulley clutch
assembly could be on it's way out & may have
started the progression.

Roger -
The armature is the central part of an electric motor (in this case the fan motor) that spins when the motor is energized. The fan cage attaches to the shaft of the armature. Blower motor runs...fan cage rotates. Result is air flow generated.

I don't expect that the a/c compressor clutch factors here. at all.

1993 Lincoln Lincoln Ignition System Lagging When accelerating Always

New User Asked -
have a 93 177000 miles town car, idles fine, when starting or trying to accelerate from just about any speed,it stubbles like it is running out of gas,,removing the maf connector, problem goes away but the service engine light comes on, when I bought the car I heard
sounds like rocks where in the tail pipes,, found out that the cats were clogged and had broken apart and some where in the muffler, do you think the ecm had been re-programed trying to fix the clogged cats problem, please help thanks larry

Sterlingfixer -
I believe you have a bad MAF sensor. It is sending a false reading to the computer and the computer can run the car better without the sensor than listening to its lies. The catalyst is often broken when a car has this many miles.

New User -
can you tell what years or model that might be interchanageable, mercury or ford or year so I can pick one up at a junk yard to see if that will solve the problem, (no town cars in this area) thanks larry

If your fuel gage is missing segments, you will need to replace the cluster. The digital clusters were problematic. That may be the same problem with the Message Center missing some segments.

1991 Lincoln Lincoln Chassis / Suspension & Steering

New User Asked -
The power steering pump whines even when the wheels arent turned, it really whines when the wheels are turned.
The pump appears to be losing fluid even though there is no evidence of a leak on the ground.
The fluid in the pump resevoir looks foamy.
I was told by a repair shop that inner tie rods are needed.
The front tires are very badly worn even though they have very low mileage.
Is it the pump, steering rack?
Any guidence would be appreciated

New User -
This problem makes the car undrivable.

kaptnzog -
If your tires are wearing badly and they are fairly new, inner tie rods could play a factor in both wear to tires and point where leaking occurs but you state you don't see any obvious leaks.Try filling the power steering resevoir and turn the wheel lft and rt to to its full radius then back to center.Let it cycle for a few minutes then repeat again. This may take about 10 minutes. What youre doing is trying to purge air out of the system.Check around the pump and rack while doing this. The pressure created my lead to where the leak is.As for the rack I would check prices on a reman unit if the leak is here. Its usualy cheaper than trying to repair this one as its going inner seals along with the rods.Same goes for the pump

1989 Lincoln Lincoln Engine

New User Asked -
We just purchased a 1989 Lincoln Continental which is, I believe, an LS. When we had the car inspected, we were told it would not pass because it has a loose motor mount. We cannot seem to locate or access the motor mounts to see if one needs replacement or just tightening. We do not have a manual for this car. Can you advise where to look for the motor mounts on this vehicle? Thank you.

Falkeneiz -
your motor mounts (4) are located between your engine and engine cradle.. you have 2 in front bottom of the engine Near the radiator and 2 on the rear bottom near the firewall. If memory serves right yours is a front wheel drive vehicle with the 3.8 engine....if that is the case than these are your mount locations and as far as verifying that they are bad, you can load the engine in drive (with hood up and left foot on the brake) and observe if you have abnormal engine movement, try this in reverse also

1988 Lincoln Lincoln Windows / Glass  Happens always

New User Asked -
The windows on my lincoln town car all stopped working at the same time. I can not find a blown fuse or circuit breaker.

kaptnzog -
You need to check for power coming in to the master switch on the left front door as well as power going out of switch. If power is present going in but not out, I'm not sure if you have a gang switch(one complete unit of switches) or individual switches that can be unpluged. In either case, one may be grounding causing the problem.
Good Luck,
Paul

1986 Lincoln Lincoln Fuel System Failing When driving

New User Asked -
My car dies while I'm driving down the road. It is like it runs out of gas. At first, it didn't happen often, but now it has been just about every time I drive it. I checked the fuel filter, but it doesn't seem to be cloged. It restarts after sitting for a while. At first it would restart in a few minuets, but now it takes a few hours. Please advise.
P.S. Great site, I like being able to get advise.

Douglas -
During the no start period you'll have to check for spark to the plugs (preferably with a spark tester).
Do you have spark?

New User -
I'll check. Also, A while back my connection to the battery was causing the car to die while driving down the road. At times it wouldn't state unless I adjusted the connection. Would there be a connection this and the car dieing while going down the road.

Douglas -
It's possible, has the connection(s) been repaired?

New User -
actually yes, and when it was dying from the connection it had no power, and now it has power. Where is the fuel pump located?

Douglas -
The fuel pump is in the tank.

New User -
I took the fuel filter off and there is no fuel flow from the line. The car is EFI. I heard there is a resent switch for the fuel pump. Should I try that?

Douglas -
This switch (inertia) can give problems but doesn't reset itself.

Was there spark? This is the first step in diagnosis. If you don't have spark you usually won't have power going to the fuel pump and will get no fuel flow.

1986 Lincoln Lincoln Engine Won't Start

New User Asked -
has fuel not firing

Douglas -
The first thing is to check to see if the distributor rotor is turning and check fuses/battery cables/ and grounds.

If these check okay test the ignition/distributor components. Most chain auto parts stores will check these free of charge.

Use the following link to access a repair guide that'll contain details on the ignition components. Copy and Paste into your Address Bar-
