1997 Lincoln Mark III Fuel System   

My car will crank, but will not start. I checked to see if I have fuel in the lines by pressing down on the Schrader valve on the fuel line. There is no fuel coming out and I know there is fuel in the tank. Can a bad fuel filter be the cause?

A bad filter could cause this, but it is more likely to be a bad fuel pump, or fuel pump wiring.

I was afraid you might say that. Is it difficult to check the fuel pump wiring and where would I look? Also, is the fuel pump located inside the gas tank?

The fuel pump is inside the tank. In a case like this, I plan to change the fuel pump, but check the wiring after the tank is lowered and before I disconnect all the plumbing.

I beleive this car has a crash shutoff switch. If you find this switch, you can use a test light to make sure power is reaching the siwtch and passing through it. The test light should light up for about 5 seconds after the key is turned on. If this is OK, then the pump, connecotrs or ground is the only remaining place for a problem.
