1994 Mazda B4000 Engine Stalling When driving No pattern

New User Asked -
engine stalls and always restarts after a few minutes. no help. computer code is 543 batt to eca. i have replaced the fuel pump and inertia switch no help

Kerry -
What the code is telling you is that there is a power problem to the 'computer', ie, the "eca". There is either a heat problem causing the malfunction, and it is only a matter of time before the 'eca' dies completely, or there is a corrosion problem in the wiring to the eca for the main power to this device. I think the problem is heat related to the eca. The only cure is replacement. If it is in the wiring, then all contacts need to be cleaned, or tightened, as the case may be.

1994 Mazda B4000 Engine Overheating When driving When warm

New User Asked -
We replaced the radiator and the engine is air locked . We replaced the theromsate .The truck still overheated . We thought maybe it was a faulty part so we got another one and the same thing . We thought we got the air locked fixed and then it overheated again . We put a water pump on and the top radiator hose collopased .We have tried everything and nothing seems to work .HELP ???????

Falkeneiz -
not knowing your initial problem .. the best way to purge all the air out of the cooling system is to have your heater turned on high after you fill the system up.. leave your radiator cap off until after your thermostat opens up and refill system to apropriate level... assuming you dont have other mechanical failures causing the overheating , this procedure will purge all the air out... good luck

New User -
Tried that and it didn't work . Would a plugged head gasket cause the air lock?

Hello, the wrong type radiator cap, and/or a kinked/pinched hose from the overflow tank to the radiator, are what causes an upper radiator hose to collapse.

Head gaskets' not a concern here unless an overheat caused the head to warp. A compression test can be helpful for diagnosing such a
condition. White smoke from the exhaust, coolant in the crankcase, low compression are head gasket symptoms.

Roger

New User -
We had changed the rad cap before I got your reply .
The engine builds up pressure to the heater hose but will not circulate .

Roger -

What was the original problem that replacing the radiator was decided to be the fix?

Will coolant circulate and the engine run without overheating with the heater core bypassed? Have you backflushed the heater core? Can you 'pre-fill' the heater core? Has the block been flushed? With the engine warm and a cooling system pressure tester installed, can you burp the air out by loosening a hose clamp?

Any cooling fan concerns? Any chance the water pump is turning the wrong way due to a belt routed improperly?

Hello, are we finished here?

Roger

Hello, please respond so that we can get this wrapped up.

Thanks,

Roger

New User -
We have ordered the head gaskets to do that . there was so much corrosion in the rad that we are going to try that as nothing else has worked . I'll let you know if this works .

Great, I'll look forward to your next message. Have you decided to have a machine shop service the head, or, will you be replacing the head with a good used one?

Roger

New User -
We are replacing the gasket . The feeling is that it is plugged . We will have the heads checked at the same time to make sure that there is no problem with them . The dealer said that they do get the odd plgged gasket but it is not common with them

I will never say I know it all and this certainly is a first for me. I've not seen a plugged headgasket that restricted coolant flow so severely. I appreciate being kept in the loop.

Roger

Roger -
Hi, How is this repair coming along??

Roger

Roger -
Did you get this truck going yet? I'm trying to keep up....

Roger

Roger -
May I have the courtesy of an update?

Thanks,

Roger

Roger -
Are you there?

Roger

Roger -
Have you fixed the truck??

Roger

Roger -
Hello? How is it going?

Roger

New User -
Hi,
Sorry that I haven't replied but I had computer problems ( viruses )and I couldn't get on the interent.
The truck has a clutch fan and the temp had to go up before the fan will start. Everything was checked before we found that out . Thank you for your suggestions

1994 Mazda B4000 Engine  When troubleshooting Always

New User Asked -
Im getting a 538 code. what is the cid code refering to? is it the crankshaft sensor. the truck runs fine but the check engin light came on.

Sterlingfixer -
Code 538 is to set only in the engine running self test when the computer does not recognize wide open throttle at the appropriate time. Rerun the test, snapping the throttle wide open. This code cannot cause the light to come on while you are running. There should be an additional code stored on the memory that will point you to the problem that is actually turning the light on.
RERUN YOUR TESTS!

1994 Mazda B4000 Ignition System

New User Asked -
Thanks for your help, my son's Mazda pickup runs rough at idle, plugs, wires, aircleaner, pcv valve replaced, all new plugs immediately run/are or have become black

Douglas -
This usually indicates an overfueling or flooding condition. Is there black smoke from the exhaust if you rev the engine? Start by checking the fuel pressure regualator (remove the vacuum hose and inspect for signs of raw fuel; wet or strong odor).

If the EGR valve is hanging partially open, it can cause a rough idle. You can revove and inspect/clean if necessary.

Is the check engine light coming on? The MAF (mass airflow sensor) is a major sensor for fuel delivery. False readings from this sensor can cause a rich or lean fuel mixture.

New User -
thanks but no the check engine light is not on, we recently purchased this vehicle in not running condition, the past owner said it stopped running and would not start for him, and appeared to be flooded. As the previous owner had no real experience with the vehicle except one trip as well our combined knowledge of when this vehicle actually ran decent is non-existant. Everything seems to be hooked up, but with 10 minutes of running the new plugs were black and sooty. I am not in a postion to tow this vehicle to a dealer nor do I know anyone I can trust working in a shop. If you had to bet would it be map sensor? coil pack or some sort of fuel regulator. I would rather spend the money and do it my self.

Douglas -
I believe your engine has a MAF sensor? Look in the large air duct to the throttle body for it.

Try to check the thing I already mentioned, especially the fuel pressure regulator and egr valve. To view pictures of what these components look like, visit the following site-

http://www.partsamerica.com/VehicleSelection.aspx?destinationpage=default.aspx

Copy and Paste the link into your Address Bar. Enter Year, Make, Model, etc then click on Replacement Parts. The fuel pressure reg. should be under the FUEL SYSTEM category, and the EGR valve under EMISSIONS.
