1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE Electrical / Lighting Systems
New User Asked -
I have a 1993 300CE Cabriolet. The top went down but wont go back up. I have checked the relay and fuses and also replaced the switch with a new one. The switch lights and the warning bells sound but the top does not come up. I do not have an owners manual so I do not know if there is a sequence for raising the top. Is there any way to short across wires to get the top to come up.

Does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for this car.

Hello, I found a two page wiring diagram I can send to you for the convertable top. May I have your email address please? It will be in Adobe format.

Hi Roger,
Yes, that would be great and will be an excellant place to start my troubleshooting. Do you happen to know where I might acquire a wiring diagram for the rest of the car? Will need shop manuals etc. for the car as I am 500 miles from the nearest dealer and do most of the work myself. Would be willing to pay for these manuals. Thanks, Craig

I won't have an Owner's Manual. Have you tried eBay? Or, www.helminc.com
I'll send the diagrams. If not in your inbox be sure to check your spam/junk mail.

After looking at the wiring diagram it seems there is a testing module for testing the top that I do not have access to. Have talked to several parts places and they advised that it probably the soft top control module. Unfortunately this is a $1000.00 part. I hate to buy it without knowing for sure that mine is bad. Was wondering if anyone had access to a similiar car that I could send them my top module and they could plug it into their car and see if it works. It is very easy to access and would take just a couple of minutes to check. Also is there any way at all to get the top up manually.
Thanks,
Craig

Perhaps you could locate a salvage part. I doubt any owner would accomodate swapping the part with a known good one to see if yours is a good one. If the slightest abnormality occured they would want you to buy them the Space Shuttle.
What luck can you expect by calling the dealer near you to ask them how to raise the top manually?

Hi Roger,
We did some more checking and did find the manual latch to open the boot and manually raise the top. Upon further checking we did find that the soft top lock switches were stuck . We did get the top working and hope that it continues to work. The car has been sitting for quite sometime and the switches may have gummed up or something. The wiring diagram that you sent was helpful and this is where we traced the switch problem to. We are very happy that it was not the module ! Thanks so much.

The only wiring diagrams I have are located on a data base that is a subscription only service. I would have to request a diagram for each system by name. Too expensive to pursue!
