1989 Mercury Colony Park All Part Groups Chugging Happens always Always
New User Asked -
When I accelerate to about 50 mph it begins "trailerhitching". performance upto 50 seems good. When I get beyond the trailerhitching (about 60) there is no power.

I don't recall a Mercury Colony, is this a V8 rear wheel drive with a gasoline engine? Also this makes no difference whether the engine is warm or cold?
When was the last tune-up, to start with make the fuel filter is not overdue for changing.
New User -
Yes, the Colony Park is a V8 RWD. 5.0L FI. It has a brand new fuel filter, spark plugs and wires are new also. It still has the same problem.

Okay, is there any check engine light while the engine is running?
If not, try disconnecting the controls to the egr valve and test driving. Let me know if this make any difference.
New User -
The check engine light is not on.
Unplugging the egr controls had no effect.
