1999 Mercury Mountaineer Engine   Always

New User Asked -
My check engine light stays on and my heater is intermittant. The temp guage remains in the normal postion.

Roger -
Hello, I doubt the Check Engine light has any connection to the heater being intermittent. Is the coolant level full? Just one quart low and the heater core can starve for flow.

Consider dropping by a national auto parts chain store and ask them to use a code reader to find the cause of the Check Engine light. You should call first to confirm they'll do this for free. Most will. But, they will not clear the code due to liability issues. With the code cause identified you can decide whether to purchase a repair part.

A word of caution, the Check Engine light will come on for reasons as simple as a loose gas cap. Or, refueling with the engine running. Therefore...

If you would like to clear the code you may do so by disconnecting the battery for ten minutes, hold the foot brake down for one minute and then reconnect the battery. This will reset the computer and it will "relearn" idle speeds and your driving habits. If there really is a "hard code" it will turn the light on again and you will need to go the diagnostic route.

Thoughts?,

Roger

1997 Mercury Mountaineer Electrical / Lighting Systems Upgrade

New User Asked -
The radio/cassette died and I was given an expensive aftermarket stereo to replace it with. I have found the power and ground wires but can not figure out the speaker wires. It appears as though the original radio was a tuner with a stand alone power amplifier because the wires coming out of the tuner are clearly not 8 ohms across any two. If this is the case, can you tell me where the amplifier is located and which plug is to the speakers? Any info on wire color code would be helpful. I would happily purchase said info if I knew where to get it.Haines and Chilton have nothing on this and my Mercury parts guy had an attitude. Thank you for any help or leads you can provide.

I don't think I have this information available without buying it myself.
